Final Fantasy XIV ending free period, PS3 version due in fall 2012
Final Fantasy XIV has not been a high point for Square Enix. After the game was released, critics and fans slammed it for having numerous problems. Square Enix knew the game was seriously flawed and decided to restructure the development team to create the true version of FFXIV. For the past several months, Square Enix has not charged players a subscription fee for FFXIV while the team continued to make improvements through updates. In a letter to fans, Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada detailed the future of FFXIV including the end of the free period, and an update on its PS3 release.

Massive multiplayer online roleplaying games aren’t for everyone, and even the people who do like them will find themselves loving some and hating others. First, there are two Hyur (Hume) tribes, Midlander and Highlander. Midlanders can be male or female, and Highlanders can only be male. It sounds like Midlanders are going to be very similar to the Humes of FFXI and be able to perform most jobs adequately, but there’s no information on Highlander’s expertise yet…

In what is probably the biggest shocker of Sony’s E3 2009 press conference, Jack Trenton announced that the Square Enix-developed Final Fantasy XIV would be coming out exclusively for the PS3 (and Windows) in 2010.
A cinematic intro video was shown a the Sony press conference which provided us with Final Fantasy imagery we’ve come to expect such as flying creatures and, of course, chocobos.
