Important Importables: Nendoroids
One of the many things gamers love about Japan is all of the awesome figurines that are made there. Among the cutest and most recognizable of said figures are the Nendoroids. These super deformed (chibi) versions of iconic characters are delightful to look at and friendly for any collector, since their appearance allows them to be enjoyed by people of all ages. Plus, they have quite a bit of personality, despite their small stature.
So this week, Important Importables is all about the Nendoroids. I’ll tell you what they are, suggest a few specific models you may want to check out and offer up some links to reputable places that sell them. After that, it’s up to you. It’s not like I’m going to actually buy them for you! They’re expensive and I have an otome collection to maintain…

Epic Mickey was one of the most talked about games at E3 2010, so everyone was expecting to hear about some kind of special edition. Toys ‘R Us just happened to be the first site to reveal it. There’s a product listing there for what’s billed as the Epic Mickey Collector’s Edition. Like the standard edition, it’ll be available for Wii owners to buy on November 15, 2010…

Japan Import: Lucky Star loves Street Fighter
Konata, the star of the manga and anime series Lucky Star, is a huge video game fan so a Lucky Star/Street Fighter collaboration isn’t that surprising. It is, of course, absolutely adorable. The Good Smile Company is going to create a set of Nendroid Petit Lucky Star figurines dressed as Street Fighter characters in August, 2010.
The Nendroid Petit Lucky Star x Street Fighter set comes with four Nendroid Petit figurines of the four main characters of the Lucky Star series dressed as famous Street Fighter characters. Konata is Guile, Miyuki is C. Viper and the Hiiragi twins Kagami and Tsukasa are dressed as Ryu and Ken. Each figurine is between two and three inches tall and arrive as shown in the picture above.
Both Hobby Search and JBox are taking set preorders…
Important Importables: Collecting trading figures
Candy toys are a common sight in any Japanese grocery store. At least, if you take the time to peek down the candy or snack aisle they are. These items appear in little boxes, with a picture on the front of the series they’re from and the item that may be inside.
While they may be called “candy toys,” the moniker is quite misleading. Each usually comes with only one, small piece of candy inside. (Usually a piece of sugar candy or gum.) The main reason anyone buys them is for the toy inside. One of the main kinds of candy toy is the trading figure…
Preorder Bioshock 2 at Toys R Us to get figurines
Toy R Us’ ad for January 31-February 6, 2010 is quite interesting in terms of video game sales. It mentions the usual build your own bundles, sales and promotions, but also a pretty cool preorder deals. No, I take that back, the Bioshock 2 preorder offer is just plain awesome. If you spend $5 to preorder Bioshock 2 for the PS3 or Xbox 360, you get a Big Sister and Little Sister figurines!
If you decide to go for this preorder, then you will have to wait a while to get your figurines. You don’t get your Big Sister and Little Sister right when you place your $5 preorder. You get them when you get your copy of Bioshock 2 on February 9, 2010.
If you preordered Bioshock 2 somewhere else, but still want the figurines, you can buy them from Toys R Us…
Preorder Pokemon HeartGold or SoulSilver and get a miniature Ho-Oh or Lugia
As is expected for every portable Pokemon game, Nintendo has announced that there will be preorder incentive items for Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver designed to encourage people to place their orders early. Not like the game really needs it in the first place, given it’s Pokemon, one of the best loved and best selling portable games series in existence. Nonetheless, it is nice to get something for free when buying a game you already knew you were going to buy.
The preorder program starts February 1, 2010, and will give every person who takes the time to reserve a copy a statue of one of two legendary pokemon found in Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver. If you place your preorder for HeartGold, you get a figurine of Ho-Oh that appears to be preparing to soar up into the skies. If you prefer SoulSilver, you get the Lugia figurine pictured at the right.
Amazon isn’t mentioning the preorder offer yet, but…
