Minecraft to be the focus of a film in 2012

The popular brick stacking game is being made into a full length documentary, all thanks to generous players.
When Markus “Notch” Persson, the creator and programmer for Minecraft, announced that he wanted to found his own development house, 2 Player Productions decided that they wanted to be right there filming the whole thing.

Books about gamers for librarians, teachers
In the Los Angeles Times, writer Alex Pham reports that the San Fernando Library encourages youth to play video games and even invites them to be as loud as they like.
“It lets teens be more comfortable with the library and become familiar with librarians,” San Fernando librarian Lydia Harlan told Pham. “And it’s what kids are into these days.”
In the article, Pham reports that more libraries are turning to video games to connect with technologically savvy youth who might be losing interest in books and stories. In New York, the New York Public Library has even added a collection of books, films, music and maps about video games.

Comic Con 2008: International Independent Film Festival winners
During Comic Con 2008, many games and comics were featured. And who wouldn’t want to attend a special preview of today’s most talented directors and animators create independent film masterpieces. The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival consisted of movies that fell into seven categories: action/adventure, animation, comics-oriented, documentary, humor/parody, horror and science fiction/fantasy. James Cameron, the Oscar winning director of Titanic, Aliens and the Terminator is looking to break new ground in videogame-film relations with the announcement that he and Ubisoft have joined forces.

First look at Watchmen
2007 saw one of the best comic book movies of all time released, that being Frank Millar’s 300 which would go on to gross over $450 million worldwide. 300 was only the second motion picture to be directed by Zack Snyder who, after 300 and Dawn of the Dead (Snyder’s first film), would essentially be allowed to sign his own check. That was pretty much what he did with his biggest project, the highly acclaimed-award winning comic book Watchmen, which Snyder has wanted to turn into a film for quite some time.
