Gamertell’s PSP 2011 Holiday Gift Guide

Time for another Gamertell holiday gift guide! This time, we’re looking over PSP games you can give people as gifts.

Wait, where are you going? Come back here! The PSP is still a very valid gaming platform.

I know you’re thinking, “There were actually 10 games released for the PSP this year? Madness!” It’s true. Actually, there were quite a few more. And fortunately for you and that PSP owner on your shopping list, most of them were actually pretty darn awesome. So that should make shopping easier.

But before you go buying someone a PSP game, you may actually need to buy them a system…

Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV arriving on PSN September 20

Time to savor and remember the classics as two of Square Enix’s best games are heading to the North American PlayStation Store. Well, technically they’re two of Square’s best games, but let’s not quibble. Instead, let’s just be happy that we’ll be able to play Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy IV on our PS3s and PSPs since both games are becoming PSone Classics September 20, 2011….

Review: Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection for PSP

We all know how much Square Enix loves to port games, and Final Fantasy IV is one of its favorites to rerelease. Since it’s original appearance on the SNES, the RPG has appeared on the PlayStation, Wonderswan Color, Game Boy Advance, cell phones, Wii Virtual Console, DS and now finally on the PSP. Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection is definitely the most complete of the batch, as it not only contains the original Final Fantasy IV, but also Final Fantasy IV: The After Years, the episodic sequel, and an all new episode that bridges the 17 year gap between the two games.

If you need another copy of Final Fantasy IV in your life, then Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection will be the last one you’ll ever have to buy…

Europe gets Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection this year (update)

If you’re a Final Fantasy fan, then just look away. You don’t want to read this. If you do, then you’ll start getting that familiar pang in the back of your head that will slowly compel you to pick up another copy of Final Fantasy IV, even though you own the original SNES game and you still haven’t finished the DS remake. Are you still here? Well, don’t say I didn’t warn you…

Japan Import: Final Fantasy IV: The Complete Collection headed to PSP

I hope you have room in your hearts for another incarnation of Final Fantasy IV. Well, I guess it doesn’t really matter if you do or don’t. Square Enix is going to release Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection anyway. The news was just revealed in the Japanese V Jump magazine, and this could be the mystery title Square Enix was teasing for Jump Festa 11.

At least this time, Final Fantasy IV: Complete Collection will have some new content worth purchasing…

Nintendo downloads for March 8, 2010

Morning! How’re you all doing so far? Good I hope. If you’re expecting a landslide of fantastic games today, I’m sorry but you’ll have to settle for one big Nintendo download announcement, and a few more minor highlights.

See, today Nintendo and Square Enix decided to add the classic RPG Final Fantasy II to the Virtual Console. And by FFII, I mean what is actually Final Fantasy IV. Yeah, it’s hard to top that. Even though quite a few people have been waiting on the WiiWare game Max & the Magic Marker, and that DSiWare card game Elemental Masters sounds intriguing, it just can’t compare to one of the best loved Final Fantasy games in existance.

Also, DSi owners will be happy to know that new animations from artists like Mike Choi, Scott Kurtz and Christina Strain are now at the Flipnote Hatena site. Well, honestly anyone can enjoy them, since you can actually watch the Flipnote animations at the site, even if you don’t own a DSi.

Gamertell’s Nintendo Download picks for the week is Final Fantasy II (Virtual Console).

5 Most romantic Final Fantasy games

While all of the Final Fantasy games are generally about saving the world, or many of the people in it, another common theme is love. Whether it’s an entry like Final Fantasy VIII, where the love story is a prominent part of the story of Final Fantasy VI, where it’s only slightly touched about, the games frequently focus on the development of relationships between characters.

With Valentines Day drawing near, it seems only appropriate to highlight some of the more romantic entries in the Final Fantasy series. So to help you get in the romantic mood and possibly find some holiday gaming material, Gamertell has gathered together five of the most romantic Final Fantasy games and looked at what exactly makes them so memorable…

Square Enix DS and PSP games are Amazon’s video game deals of the day

Great news! If there’s an RPG loving DS or PSP owner on your wishlist this year, you can get them a really great gift at a fantastic price! Or, you could pick something up for yourself. Either way, you’ll want to take advantage of Amazon’s video game Deal of the Day today, December 16, 2009. All day, Amazon is going to be selling Crisis Core: Final Fantasy (PSP), Final Fantasy IV (DS) and The World Ends with You (DS) for $9.78 each. You can’t get those games used for that price.

Final Fantasy IV is a DS port of the classic game, with additional content, a new translation and voice acting. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is a direct prequel to Final Fantasy VII, centering on the adventures of Zack Fair, an elite member of SOLDIER. The World Ends with You is the only non-Final Fantasy game of the three, and revolves around the adventure of a young man named Neku and his companions who are trapped in Shibuya for seven days and must find a way to keep passing missions to survive…

Square Enix announced Jump Festa 2010 playable games

Jump Festa, a good chance to get a preview of what import games will be out in 2010, is fast approaching. It’s happening December 19-20, 2009 this year, and video game developers and publishers like Capcom, Koei, Konami, Sega, Sony, Square Enix, Nintendo, Hudson, Namco Bandai, Banpresto and Marvelous Entertainment have already RSVP-ed. In the case of Square Enix, its done a bit better. Square Enix has announced what games will be playable at the event. So if you can make it to Makuhari Messe, in Chiba, Japan, you could get first-hand experience with some up and coming titles.

Here are all the games that will be playable at the event…

Final Fantasy: The After Years add-on overview (part one)

Now that July 6, 2009 has passed, Final Fantasy IV: The After Years players have quite a few additional story options. Square Enix has made four additional chapters available so far: Rydia’s Tale, Yang’s Tale, Palom’s Tale and Edge’s Tale. Each additional story is 300 points (US$3) via WiIWare.

While the downloadable content screen in the game offers a brief summation of the events that take place in all the additional tales available, sometimes that information isn’t enough. So, in an effort to assist FFIV: The After Years players, I’ve purchased and played through all four add-on tales. A brief summary of each story, what characters appear as party members and notable aspects or features of each story. I also state whether or not I recommend that particular piece of downloadable content. And don’t worry about spoilers! The whole article is spoiler-free…
