Development studio ACONY, based in Villingen-Schwenningen in the heart of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, will be premiering their skills at 2011’s GamesCom. GamesCom, which takes place in Cologne, Germany, is the largest worldwide annual trade fair for interactive games and entertainment.

One genre not lacking for representation on consoles is the first-person shooter. Upcoming Namco game Inversion will use gravity manipulation in hopes of standing out in this crowded genre.

In the game, a gadget called the Gravlink is mapped to the right bumper of your controller. If enemies are under cover, you can use gravity to send them floating and blow them out of the sky. You can deal with fast-moving enemies by using high gravity to slow them down. You can also combine the powers in combos. For example, you can float enemies with low gravity then make them heavier, sending them crashing back to earth.

Oh, Call of Duty, hardly a day goes by without you being involved in some sort of controversy.

The Sacramento Bee brings us a story about a Sacramento, CA, public library holding a Call of Duty: Black Ops tournament. There’s a good amount of local outcry from those who think library should be getting kids into books, not games.

An easy-to-miss aside on Bungie.net alerted gamers to a big feature in Halo:Reach. The title many are calling the biggest game of 2010 will introduce campaign matchmaking to the series for the first time.

City Interactive has released a patch for Sniper: Ghost Warrior for the Xbox 360. The patch will allow for upgraded AI behavior, increased functionality for camouflage system, improved multiplayer experience and an enhanced real-time stealth system.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior is first-person shooter (released June 2010) where the player takes on the role of an elite sniper in a highly trained special ops unit. His unique skills in the art of stalking, target detection, surveillance and shooting accuracy are what you need to successfully complete a mission. As with any stealth game, you try to operate undetected and deliver head shot after head shot to enemy forces.

Street date, schmeet date.

It should probably not come as a surprise that some retailers decided to break the November 10, 2009, street date on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. The events that transpired afterward are definitely worth noting, though.

GameStop contacted COD publisher Activision regarding retailers breaking the street date. These conversations led to the retailer deciding to break street date in areas where other retailers had already done so.
