Gamefly has long been the Netflix of games, with a slower turnaround time. Still, if you’re patient and don’t mind waiting several days for your next game, it’s a great service.

Is there anything better than free games? I mean, it’s a rhetorical question, but when you have good, free flash games that you can play in a browser, it’s hard to complain. Today, GameFly (the generally excellent game rental service) launched Ponged, which offers “over 500″ games, all free to play in any flash-capable browser, all of which were reportedly selected by “hardcore gamers”. According to Joystiq, everything should work just perfectly in browser windows on your Wii or PS3, and there’s even a quick-conceal “boss button” so those who game at work can easily avoid getting caught.

Unless you missed out on An Inconvenient Truth – or just about any piece of mainstream media in the last five years – you know that “going green” is not only “in”, but it’s essential. Though it’s rare that games let you save the world in the more realistic sense (that is, from the evils of over consumption and pollution, rather than from aliens or super villains), but I’ve run across a few in my green-oriented travels. The following titles are not only environmentally oriented, but they come in at a wallet-friendly price of free – making them just as easy on your green as Mother Earth’s.

There’s nothing sweeter than finding fun on the cheap – or better – for free, especially when it comes to videogames. Now that everyone is weary about spending (yes, the economy is ruining everything, and no one is immune), finding good, free web-based games has become a hobby for many. I’m here to point you in the direction of two that are particularly compelling – for entirely different reasons.
