Sony apologizes for giving away the wrong free games

Yesterday, Sony revealed the long-awaited contents of its Welcome Back customer appreciation program. For what seemed like an endless amount of time, PS3 owners have been waiting to know what free games Sony promised to give to the entire community as an apology for the PSN hack. It turns out Sony can’t please everyone.

Sony Welcome Back program offers 2 PS3 and 2 PSP games

Sony Computer Entertainment America finally announced the details of its Welcome Back program. Just like the European PlayStation Blog promised, PSN customers in the U.S. and Canada will get two select PS3 games and two PSP games. The games can be kept forever and will only be available for 30 after the PlayStation Store comes back online. Free movie rentals and PlayStation Home content will also free.

Telltale has released a Back to the Future game for Facebook

Telltale Games is branching out into the world of Facebook with it’s new free to play game Back to the Future: Blitz Through Time.

This kicks off a major new initiative for the company’s publishing strategy that will see complementary free-to-play social games launch in advance of many major Telltale game releases. In this case, Back to the Future: Blitz Through Time is promoting their upcoming 5 part episodic Back to the Future game for the PC, Mac, Playstation Network, and IPad.

Sony introduces PSP Favorites, free game offers

Sony is trying to bring back the PSP in a big way. In addition to the 10 free games offer and the new marketing scheme, Sony is lowering the price of some PSP games. First up is the PSP Favorites line. These games will now cost $9.99 starting today (June 1, 2010). The games they are offering at this price are well worth it.

Gamertell Review: Sony’s The Agency: Covert Ops on Facebook

The Agency is along the same lines as other Facebook games including MafiaWars. You complete different missions, earn money and influence (which is how you level up) and other goodies along the way. You can buy and upgrade weapons and other stuff including armor and cool things to wear. You can also relax at your house when the missions get to be too much for you and your house is fully customizable.

Rumor: Free Windows PC games getting Microsoft Live support

Joystiq is reporting a rumor that free Windows games such as Solitaire, Freecell and Minesweeper are soon to receive Microsoft Live functionality. That would mean that after registering for a Games for Windows account (it’s free to do so) players of those games could access to leaderboards, chat and of course, Xbox Live Achievements.
