Double Fine enters the trenches for its next downloadable game

Double Fine didn’t waste any time revealing its fourth game that was conceived during a two week period of brainstorming. At the Game Developers Conference, Double Fine CEO Tim Schafer revealed Trenched. Trenched is an Xbox Live Arcade game that is nothing like Double Fine’s previous three games. It’s likely Trenched will be exclusive to Xbox 360 because it is being published by Microsoft Game Studios.

Unreal Engine 3 update to be shown off at GDC

Unreal Engine 3 powers some of the most impressive games of this generation. Epic published games such as Bulletstorm and Gears of War that use this engine. During the Game Developers Conference (February 28 – March 4), Epic Games will be showing enhancements to Unreal Engine 3 to developers behind closed doors.

Final nominees announced for 9th annual GANG awards

The Game Audio Network Guild (aka GANG) recently announced the final nominees for its 9th annual GANG awards to be showcased and awarded March 3, 2011, at the 2011 Game Developers Conferencein San Francisco.

Standout nominees include Red Dead Redemption, which received 10 nominations, and Dante’s Inferno with 7 nominations. Other notable multiple nominees include God of War III, Bioshock II, Heavy Rain, Halo: Reach and Battlefield: Bad Company 2.

Sony GDC session talks PlayStation Move on PC

PlayStation Move may not be exclusively bound to the PS3 in the future. During GDC 2011 on March 2, Sony will host an one hour session discussing PlayStation Move. The purpose of the session is to explain to developers everything they need to know about developing PlayStation Move titles. It is during this event that Sony may be opening the doors to anyone interested in making PS Move applications on PC.

EEDAR analyst prediction: next-gen consoles to favor digital download sales over retail

According to an analyst for research firm Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (EEDAR), next generation consoles are likely to stress digital download sales and eschew the traditional retail model.

Mike Wilson: “People seemed pretty bored” at E3 2009, working on something new

Before I wrote “E3 could probably use a little more GameCock,” I tried to reach former GameCock CEO Mike Wilson for comment. Since he wasn’t with SouthPeak, the company that acquired GameCock in 2008, it took a little extra time to get hold of him.

It turns out he was at E3 2009 this year but not wearing the bright birdly garb or years past. He had a response to my opinion piece, a few comments about E3 2009 and let loose a little news of his own…

GDC 2009: Satoru Iwata keynote download

On March 25, 2009, the president and CEO of Nintendo, Satoru Iwata, took the time out his busy schedule to travel all the way from Japan to grace the attendees of the 2009 Game Developer’s Conference (held in San Francisco, California) with a highly anticipated keynote.

Held in the Moscone South Esplanade Ballroom, interested attendees entered an impressive sized room capable of holding 1000s of people. Three huge screens graced the front stage amidst a blue and indigo light scheme. Contemporary music tracks played in the background to entertain the audience until the main attraction begun.

The momentous keynote was titled “Discovering New Development Opportunities” and included several interesting topics:

New Vision Engine to be revealed at GDC 2008
