Lionsgate snags rights for Dead Island movie

Dead Island’s February trailer struck a chord in a genre well trodden by games and movies. It got more than 1 million views in 24 hours, sending buzz for the Deep Silver project through the roof. The trailer also won the Golden Lion at Cannes International Festival of Creativity, a prestigious advertising award. Gamers and critics weren’t alone in enjoying the trailer, Hollywood bigwigs saw what they hope can be a horror movie sensation. Lionsgate won the battle to make a Dead Island movie, which Sean Daniel of The Mummy fame will produce. He acquired the rights back in 2009.

Ultramarines movie to be released November 29, 2010

The release of the first Warhammer 40,000 feature-length straight-to-DVD movie, simply titled Ultramarines, is coming up. To be more precise, the movie’s worldwide release, according to the film’s website, will be November 29, 2010.

Battleship becoming a movie, Rhianna joins the cast

Video games, amusement park rides and now classic board games? You bet.

Universal Pictures is developing a film based on Hasbro’s classic peg-and-board strategy-guessing game, Battleship. So far the $200 million production includes director Peter Berg (Hancock), actor Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as Naval Commander Alex Hopper and the film debut of musician Rihanna. The movie is expected to be released in theaters May 25, 2012.

Brad Pitt producing Dark Void movie, may even star in it

Most of the movies made from video game adaptations up to date have been less than stellar productions (thanks Uwe Boll), to say the least. From Street Fighter to Doom every one of them has strayed far from the original material and ended up a mess.

Now there is some light shining on video game fans with the news that Brad Pitt’s production company, Plan B Entertainment, is making its debut on games-to-film adaptations with Capcom’s upcoming action title Dark Void. Plan B has secured the movie rights for the game and there is even some speculation that Brad Pitt himself might be up for the starring role.
