Gamertell Review: Wildhollow for PC and Mac

Animal raising and breeding simulation games are fairly rare on computers, so it’s always interesting to see when a new entry appears. KarjaSoft’s Wildhollow is a game where the main focus is on raising and breeding unusual monster-critters, but there’s more to it than that. There are also some adventure game elements, in the form of quests to solve to earn money and discover the truth behind a destroyed ranch and missing parents.

After deciding the gender and name of your main character, you watch as a mysterious figure lurks in the shadow by the family’s Wildhollow Ranch and trashes the place. Shortly after, you return to Spring Valley on a brief hiatus from studying abroad to learn the horrible news – Wildhollow has been destroyed and your parents are missing.

You promptly decide to abandon your education, so that you can rebuild Wildhollow, discover who did this atrocious act and learn what happened to your parents…

Gamertell Review: Able Planet’s True Fidelity PS500MM stereo headphones

The True Fidelity PS500MM stereo headset claims to offer boosted sound that will not harm your ears.

Linx Audio, the tech behind this headphone’s supposedly superior sound, was originally developed with long-term audio aficionados in mind, especially those who cranked things up to 11 way too often. By remixing the sound on the fly so it sounds louder without actually being louder, Able Planet claims its headset will save your cochlea from wear.

Gamertell Review: Hidden Magic for PC

Ever since Puzzle Quest‘s success, we’ve seen a lot of casual games that are hybrids. They combine a standard casual game genre with RPG elements to create an unusual, interesting and unique hybrid. Previously, we’ve only seen match-3/RPG or Othello/RPG titles, but Dekovir’s Hidden Magic is an entirely new experience – a hidden object RPG game. It’s a welcome new addition, and could be the inspiration for an entirely new casual game trend.

Hidden Magic begins with a brief introduction that mainly shows the present situation via images. One powerful magic user went into the forest while the other remained at home in the cabin. Monsters, goblins most likely, came in and abducted the magic user who remained at home. You then get to choose which character to play as, a sorcerer or sorceress, and then head off on a journey to find your kidnapped love.

Your character will then proceed through the countryside, searching for clues to find where to go next, using magic and telepathy to discern important location, piecing together maps and solving puzzles…

Gamertell Review: Cute Knight Kingdom for PC

Hanako Games is an industrious, independent developer and publisher. It focuses on creating interesting, engaging and challenging girl-friendly games. Over the years it has created a number of successful titles like Cute Knight / Cute Knight Deluxe, Science Girls and Fatal Hearts. With Cute Knight Kingdom, Hanako returns to create a new life simulation game in the Cute Knight series.

Cute Knight Kingdom starts with the 18th birthday party for the heroine, a daughter of candle makers. At this party she discovers that she really isn’t their daughter. She was adopted by the candlemakers. Her mother found her outside as a baby, and a mysterious apparition in the sky asked her to watch over the little girl. It also said that it would return when she is 21, to see if she found her wings…

Gamertell Review: Tales of Monkey Island: The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood for PC

The Trial and Execution of Guybrush Threepwood is the newest episode in the Tales of Monkey Island by Telltale games. In the beginning, Guybrush is being hauled back to Flotsam Island, courtesy of the backstabbing Morgan. Once there, he is summoned to court to face charges for various thing he is accused of doing. Of course, each accusation is false and you must now break out of jail and get yourself free of all charges and avoid the violent hanging that awaits you.

Oh, and you also have to cure the island of the pox as well.

You will see a familiar face in this game taking the form of the prosecution. I won’t name names but let’s just say you will see plenty of loud jackets and flying arms.

Gamertell Review: Opticon and IntelliScanner Mini handheld laser barcode scanners (updated)

This was originally going to a two separate reviews, one for the Opticon OPN-2100 handheld laser scanner and another the IntelliScanenr Mini handheld laser scanner. After using both with Collectorz Game Collector (and Movie Collector) software, however, I could not find any discernible differences in physical design or performance.

The main differences in the products are tiny cosmetics, the accompanying accessories and the prices.
