Pick up a last minute, Animal Crossing stocking stuffer

You really should have finished your Christmas shopping by now. I mean, it’s already December 18, 2009. But some people like to keep pushing things back to the last minute. Perhaps it isn’t a bad idea, since lots of stores and sites seem to run last minute sales the weekend before Christmas. Anyways, if you need a last minute stocking stuffer for a Nintendo fan on your wishlist, you should check out Play-Asia’s Animal Crossing plush toy sale.

Play-Asia is currently running an Animal Crossing Plush Doll Special. Normally, an Animal Crossing 7 inch stuffed toy costs $21.90, but they’re now $11.90. That’s just about 50% off.

There is a catch though – you don’t know which plush toy you’ll get. There are five different varieties, Rosie the blue cat, Tom Nook the raccoon/tanuki, Bianca the white wolf, Margie the white elephant or Champ the monkey. Oh, and it’s a limited time promotion as well. So if you want one, you have to act quickly. If you choose one of the more expensive shipping options, you can probably get it before Christmas!

If you’re not interested in that, look up Tales of VS. for the PSP or The Idolm@ster: Dearly Stars for the DS…

Target discounting DS games and music game bundles until December 19

If you buy your Sunday paper a day early, you were likely greeted by a wonderful Target ad. Target’s sale circular for December 13-19, 2009 not only promises $25 DS games, but also gift cards with DS or Wii purchases and some major game bundle deals. These deals are worth lining up for, as the add states there will be no rainchecks for these sale games and that quantities are limited.

The DS games are a huge highlight, since almost all of the games displayed on the front page of the ad regularly cost $34. The ad states that over 20 DS games will be part of the sale, but specifically shows The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, Style Savvy, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games, Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days, Mario & Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Jonas and Imagine Sweet 16. Above the games, the ad also shows that every $169.99 DSi will come with a $10 Target gift card.

Journey a few pages further in and you’ll see $88 game bundles. The ad says nothing about limited quantities or rainchecks next to these four items, so you may have a better chance of getting one of them than one of the sale DS games. The four $88 discounted bundles are…

Mega Man goes mobile with Mega Man: Rush Marine

If you love Mega Man and you have a BREW or Java mobile phone, then there’s a new adventure out for you to play. Capcom released Mega Man: Rush Marine on December 7, 2009. As you can guess from the title, the whole game takes place in underwater, with Mega Man fighting villains while traveling in Rush the robot dog’s submarine form.

As you can probably guess, Dr. Wily has once againd decided to release menacing robots on the world. So, as Mega Man and Rush, you must head out and save the day. This time, Dr. Wily’s greed and lust for money has lead him to scour and destroy seabeds to get oil. His actions have consequences though, and the drilling is hurting the environment and causing trouble for people living on land Mega Man and Rush have to survive 10 levels with robot master bosses, and 14 different kinds of enemies…

Important Importables: 2009 PSP import game gift guide

Black Friday and Cyber Monday may have passed, but there’s a good chance you haven’t found all of the perfect gifts yet. If there’s a PSP owner on your list, perhaps a 2009 Japanese PSP release would make the perfect stocking stuffer. Important Importables is here to help out, with a 10 game gift guide filled with titles that could make someone very happy.

As with the DS gift guide, I’ve visited all of the import game sites I’ve discussed in the column in the past and trust to check for a price range. So when you check a game, you’ll also be able to see the highest and lowest prices out there. This also reaffirms the valuable, “Don’t buy JBox import games without checking other sites first” advice. ($80 for Persona 3 Portable and $88 for Hatsune Miku: Project Diva? That’s about $20 more than any other import site!)

Gamertell Review: Style Savvy for DS

The DS is flooded with games for girls and women. Unfortunately, most of them are what gamers call shovelware, low quality games that are a chore to play. Style Savvy is the exact opposite. Style Savvy shows what happens when a high quality company like Nintendo sets out to craft a game a game with women in mind. It’s intelligent, colorful, filled with all kinds of great elements and has tons of replay value. It’s wonderful and easy to play, without any pandering.

You start out in Style Savvy as a low level stylist. Really, you’re more like an average store clerk at Strata, the most popular store in town. After only one day of working in the shop, Pretty much everyone, from the store manager Grace and fellow assistant Renee, to the shop owner Dominic, realizes you are a fashion maven. Dominic then decides to give you your own store, conveniently after you’ve learned the basics of serving customers and running a store from Grace.

Once you own your own store, how you proceed is up to you…

Important Importables: 2009 DS import game gift guide

Christmas and Hanukkah are fast approaching, and with them the holiday shopping season. An import video game can be a great gift, as it could be something people normally wouldn’t have the opportunity to play and enjoy. There’ve been a lot of great DS releases in Japan in 2009, and today Gamertell’s recommending 10 that could make fantastic gifts.

To help make shopping easier, I’ve visited the online stores I’ve mentioned in Important Importables (and bought from before) and checked the prices on the recommended games. I’ve used that to create a general price range, giving the lowest and highest prices, so you have a better idea of what you may have to pay for the recommended games…

Black Friday DSi bundles with pre-installed games

If you haven’t picked up a DSi yet, now is your chance for a great deal.

Starting this Friday, November 27, 2009 (presumably lasting through the holidays), you can purchase a Metallic Blue or White Nintendo DSi systems that come pre-installed with more than $20 in software value at various retailers.

If you are looking for fun action games with Mario and friends, then Metallic Blue is your bundle. However, if you are looking for challenges and brain builders, then go with the White bundle.

Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies available for iPhone, iPod Touch

The title of the game may have more colons than I would have liked but it matters very little in the long run. The fact is that Vivendi Games Mobile and Activision has brought the beloved zombie slaying mini-game from Call of Duty: World at War to the iPhone and iPod Touch platforms.

Call of Duty: World at War: Zombies was released November 16, 2009, on the Apple Store for $9.99. It’s a bit more expensive than what we’re used to paying for iPhone or iPod Touch games especially since it only contains the original Nazi Zombie map “Night of the Undead” to play on.
