There was a time when it was akin to the Final Fantasy series and the name was brought up when referring to challenging and intriguing turn-based RPGs about heroes facing off against evil and insurmountable odds. So before we more »

Sega realeases new titles for the Genesis Classics Collection
Sega recently released the Genesis Classics collection for the PC, hoping to bring back that feeling in those of us old enough to remember. I mean the awesome feeling, not the “That’s it???!!” feeling. Hits from Sega’s past such as Golden Axe, Space Harrier and Ecco the Dolphin were a success in this past release so Sega is launching a new group of Genesis games for the PC. This new collection will include hits like the awesome Eternal Champions (Xavier FTW!), Columns, Super Thunder Blade II and Alex Kidd in the Enchanted Castle.

Console Classix relaunch results in more gaming options for users
If you’re without a Wii, it also means you’re without Virtual Console, one of the few means of playing classic video games you may not be able to play anymore. Fortunately, websites exist online where you can subscribe to get access to these games and play via your computer, and one of them is Console Classix. In fact, Console Classix has just experienced a site relaunch, which has not only made playing classic games with them easier, but has added to the number of systems the site supports.
There are two ways to play at Console Classix. You can create a free account which allows you to play the Atari 2600, ColecoVision and NES games available on the site. So even if you go free, you’ll have access to hundreds of games. Or, you can pay for a full account, either $5.99 a month or $59.99 a year, and you’ll be able to play all of the Atari 2600, ColecoVision, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, Game Gear, Genesis, Nintendo, Sega Master System and Super Nintendo games available on the site. So far, over 3,000 games are available and you can check out the site’s library before you subscribe.

Play ye olde NES, Genesis carts on Gen-X Dual Station console
Finally, a retail console that will play carts from more than one game system. Unfortunately for younger gamers – and fortunate for us lder gamers who horde their old carts – the Gen-X Dual System plays both 8-bit NES and 16-bit Genesis games.
The Gen-X has two top slots, one for each type of cartridge. I’m guessing it’ll play your original carts, which is nice if you are still blowing to get your games to play. (Much like shaking a Polaroid picture, that does not really work. If your games have troubles starting, you likely need a new data cable. Ask any game system repair tech).
