Spoiler Alert: Glory of Heracles

There are times where a game is released where you really want to know what happened but you either can’t or don’t want to buy or play it. To help you out, Gamertell offers Spoiler Alert. We’ll play the games and tell you what happened so you don’t have to spend, or waste, your time on it. This week, we’re looking at Glory of Heracles, the DS RPG from Nintendo. Prepare to be spoiled.

The game begins with an amnesiac, immortal man running into another immortal named Leucos. Leucos decides that this is fate and the will of the gods, and the two decide to travel together. While leaving an enchanted forest, nymphs inform the amnesiac that he is the legendary hero Heracles. The two then decide to head to Mount Olympus to discover the reason behind Heracles’ memory lost, and the reason for Leucos’ immortality. Along the way they run into other immortals named Axios, Heracles and Eris who join their journey to Olympus to discover the truth…

Gamertell Review: Glory of Heracles for DS

About a year ago, Gamertell did an article on DS games Nintendo published in Japan, but never released in other territories. That list has gradually been shrinking, as Nintendo’s chosen to release Fossil Fighters and Style Savvy in both North America and Europe. Now, the list is growing even shorter, as Nintendo has chosen to release the Greek mythology laiden Glory of Heracles outside of Japan.

Glory of Heracles is part of an established series in Japan, called Heracles no Eikou. It’s the fifth entry in the series and the first new entry in the series since 1994. It also happens to be the first entry to be released outside of Japan. Originally, it was a Data East series, but Paon and Nintendo got the rights to it after Data East went bankrupt.

Glory of Heracles starts out in the same way as many RPGs. A young man suddenly finds himself with amnesia, and is searching for answers. Except in this case, the young man is an immortal that nymphs in a forest proclaim is Heracles, the legendary hero and son of Zeus. Right after washing up on a beach, Heracles meets another immortal named Leucos, who happens to be a young woman declaring herself to be a man. Leucos has been searching for answers to discover why he’s immortal, and decides that Heracles and him should team up and head to Olympus for answers…

Glory of Heracles is revealed on January 18, 2010

If you were worrying about the DS RPG Glory of Heracles, since there hasn’t been a lot of news about it since E3 2009, then don’t. Nintendo’s just announced that the game will be released in North America on January 18, 2010. Nope, it won’t fade into obscurity like DS Air, Jam with the Band or A.S.H.. It’s actually getting a stateside release.

Glory of Heracles is actually the first entry in the Glory of Heracles series that used to belong to Data East and the very first to be released outside of Japan. It’s set in Greece and relies strongly on characters, situations and such from Greek mythology. Players follow the adventures of an amnesiac young man with extraordinary abilities as he journeys to Mount Olympus to see the gods. Along the way he’ll be joined by other gifted allies and face unusual challenges.

No word yet on price. Since it’s a Nintendo game, and an RPG, I’m going to guess that the price will be between $34.99-$39.99…

E3 2009: The Glory of Heracles to illuminate the DS

PAON’s DS RPG Glory of Heracles, which was released in Japan last year as Heracles no Eikou: Tamashi no Shoumei is getting a domestic release. Nintendo announced at E3 2009 that it is going to be taking a chance on the game set in the time of the Grecian gods. This is bigger news than most people realize, it marks the first time that an entry in the Hercules no Eikou series of games, which have also appeared in Japan on the NES, SNES and Game Boy, will be released outside of Japan. However, we have to wait until 2010.

Glory of Heracles begins with Heracles washing up on a beach with amnesia. He doesn’t remember any of his past or his goals. The only thing to do is journey around Greece and try to find out who he is. He won’t be alone though, other immortals will join him on his quest, as he finds his way towards Mount Olympus.

Some of the Glory of Heracles highlights include forgeable weapons, animated cutscenes and the ability to use face buttons or the touch screen to control the game…
