GTA IV is the highest selling western developed game in Japan

Here’s an interesting fact that came near the tail end of Take-Two Interactive’s earnings call earlier today. An investor asked how well Grand Theft Auto IV has sold in Japan since October 2008. If you’re only after numbers, GTA IV has sold somewhere in the area of 400,000 copies in Japan.

GTA: Episodes from Liberty City no longer an Xbox 360 exclusive

Good news for PS3 and PC fans of Grand Theft Auto, as Rockstar has just announced that Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will be released on both platforms March 30, 2010. On the other hand, I guess this could be considered bad news for Xbox 360 owners who were pleased with the fact that, until now, Episodes from Liberty City was an Xbox exclusive.

Interestingly, there’ll be multiple ways for PC and PS3 owners to acquire Episodes from Liberty City. You can purchase GTA: Episodes from Liberty City on a PC or PS3 disc. In this form, it’s a stand alone game. You could also download the two episodes, “The Lost and Damned” and “The Ballad of Gay Tony,” individually as digital downloads. If you choose the download option, you have to actually own Grand Theft Auto IV to play the add-on episodes.

A price hasn’t been announced yet, but the Xbox 360 version costs $39.99…

Take-Two CEO admits Grand Theft Auto downloadable content released too late

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City wasn’t nearly as big a hit as Take-Two Interactive anticipated, despite being installments in one of gaming’s biggest franchises. = The double-pack of downloadable content didn’t crack the Top 10 on NPD’s sales charts in October or November 2009. During the company’s quarterly conference call with investors, Take-Two more »

Take-Two releases earnings report, second GTA IV episode coming October 2009

The first Xbox 360-exclusive episode of Grand Theft Auto IV, titled The Lost and the Damned, has been well received by critics and fans since its February 2009 release. Wedbush Morgan Analyst Michael Pachter estimates L&D has sold more than 1 million copies to date and will reach the 2 million mark by the end of October 2009. While we will wait to see if his estimates come true, Take-Two Interactive released its Q1 Earnings Report which details a list of games that will be released by October 31, 2009.

Rockstar has not confirmed what the second downloadable episode will be about but…

If I picked the 2009 Videogame Oscars

It’s Oscar night, which means different things to different people. Some folks take bets and watch the ceremony from the red carpet to the after parties, others couldn’t care less if they tried. I think that the best way to celebrate this articular exercise in award-giving by handing out Oscars to videogames. Sure, comparing the two media can be sort of like pitting apples against oranges, but enough “cinematic” games came out this year to make it worth thinking about…

NPR show mentions GTA, implies games are art, then doesn’t discuss games

The last day of year (December 31, 2008), NPR’s Talk of the Nation (TOTN) show aired a segment titled titled “The Best Arts Releases Of 2008” hosted by Neal Conan.

Granted, they likely meant liberal arts, which does not necessarily mean fine art but, even so, TOTN used a video game to plug the segment. Unfortunately, not one video game was discussed during the meat of the segment.

The segment lasts about 30 minutes and highlights works that Conan refers to as “cultural contributions” which was meant to…

Spike 2008 Video Game Award show winners, surprise announcements

Spike TV had it’s annual video game award show last night (December 14, 2008) and was hosted by comedian/rocker/award-show-host-extraordinaire, Jack Black.

The coveted Game of the Year award went to, you guessed it, Grand Theft Auto IV. Agree with it? Disagree with it? Take your frustration out in the comments section below.

As for the other categories, not that you really care about those other games, here’s the complete list o’ winners…

GTA IV now on Steam

For those of you who don’t already own Grand Theft Auto IV, it’s finally made the jump to the Steam network for direct-download purchase.

The game is not new, although there were quite a few people who were unable to get it when it was released for consoles. This is a bit of a holiday gift for both gamers and Rockstar Games: PC gamers get a great game, Rockstar Games gets more money which leads to more great games for you. See, it balances out.

If you plan on getting the game, it will set you back $49.99. If you have a…

Nominees for Spike TV’s Video Game Awards announced

Another year and another Video Game Awards show. Better known as SpikeTV’s VGAs, this will be the sixth year for the show.

Love it or loath it the show will go on in full spectacle that will include a performance by rapper turned-video game character, 50 Cent, and a “Gamer God” award for Will Wright.

The list this year looks fairly promising without too much of one game in your face like last year’s seven nominations for a certain alien-shooting game and a game about an undersea dystopia.
