Grand Theft Auto V made official with first trailer coming soon

Just a few days after the tenth anniversary of Grand Theft Auto III, Rockstar Games plastered the front end of its site with a giant confirmation of Grand Theft Auto V. There are no details about the game right now, but we won’t have to wait much longer. Assuming no information leaks out, the debut trailer for GTA V will be made public on November 2, 2011.

UK tabloid admits Grand Theft Auto story was completely false

United Kingdom tabloid The Daily Star has admitted a reporter completely made up a July 21, 2010, story about Grand Theft Auto.

Rockstar Games sending out Hot Coffee settlement checks

If you were offended by the Hot Coffee sex mini-game in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and submitted the proper documentation to Rockstar Games by the May 16, 2008, deadline, you will soon receive your settlement.

The GTA settlement site says those that submitted paperwork should receive what they are entitled to by April 15, 2010.

Billionaire Carl Icahn buys a bunch more Take-Two stock

In a move drawing lots of interest on Wall Street, financier Carl Icahn has increased his ownership stake in troubled Take-Two Interactive from 2.5 percent to 11.3 percent.

Icahn has a history of pushing for either change in or the outright sale of companies he invests in. This has increased speculation that Take-Two will be up for sale in the near future, and as a result the company’s shares shot up 10 percent after word of Icahn’s purchase got out.

Despite hit franchises such as Grand Theft Auto and Midnight Club, Take-Two expects to report its second consecutive annual net loss in fiscal year 2010. Industry insiders are openly questioning the company’s management structure. The recent admission of Take Two CEO Ben Feder that the company he feels the company mishandled the release of downloadable GTA expansions will do little to restore faith.

Take-Two CEO admits Grand Theft Auto downloadable content released too late

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City wasn’t nearly as big a hit as Take-Two Interactive anticipated, despite being installments in one of gaming’s biggest franchises. = The double-pack of downloadable content didn’t crack the Top 10 on NPD’s sales charts in October or November 2009. During the company’s quarterly conference call with investors, Take-Two more »

Take-Two reaches $20 million settlement over Hot Coffee

Starbucks’ prices look positively reasonable when you consider how much a little “Hot Coffee” cost Take-Two Interactive.

The Grand Theft Auto publisher announced on September 1, 2009, that it has reached a $20 million settlement with investors in the class-action lawsuit filed over the Hot Coffee scandal surrounding Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The suit alleges that Take-Two was cash strapped before releasing the highly anticipated GTA sequel and rushed the game out the door knowing about the extreme sexual content. Take-Two didn’t help its case when it claimed the hidden sex scene was the work of hackers, when it was designers at GTA developer Rockstar Games who left the content “in” the game. The thing turned into a PR and financial nightmare for Take-Two pretty quickly, leading to a GTA: San Andreas recall and a nosedive in the company’s stock price.

GameStop wants to set you up like a mob boss

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars has been given a good amount of praise since its release but its sales figures were not as high as we may have thought. Chinatown Wars only sold 89,000 copies in the United States during the first 18 days of release and Nintendo believes the game will sale consistently high in the long run.

If word of mouth is what Nintendo is hoping for then no one has a bigger mouth than GameStop. GameStop currently has a Live Like a Chinatown Mob Boss contest going on that has a beefy grand prize.

Guinness World Records celebrates Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, Resident Evil 5

Guinness World Records is trying to get in on the hype surrounding the highly anticipated releases of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (March 17, 2009) and Resident Evil 5 (March 13, 2009) by announcing each of these franchises’ biggest records.

All of this interesting yet useless information was taken straight from the Guinness World Records 2009 Gamer’s Edition book…

NPR show mentions GTA, implies games are art, then doesn’t discuss games

The last day of year (December 31, 2008), NPR’s Talk of the Nation (TOTN) show aired a segment titled titled “The Best Arts Releases Of 2008” hosted by Neal Conan.

Granted, they likely meant liberal arts, which does not necessarily mean fine art but, even so, TOTN used a video game to plug the segment. Unfortunately, not one video game was discussed during the meat of the segment.

The segment lasts about 30 minutes and highlights works that Conan refers to as “cultural contributions” which was meant to…
