Top 10 survival tips for Dead Island

There’s a new zombie killing game in town, Dead Island, and it can be rough going, especially if you’ve never fought zombies before. Here are some tips for a guy who’s popped more than his share of rotting heads:

Get the Dark Souls Collector’s Edition for $59.99

During Namco Bandai’s Level Up in Dubai press conference yesterday, we learned that From Software’s Dark Souls, the Demon’s Souls follow up, would be out in October 2011 and have some kind of pre-order incentive. Namco Bandai has followed up with more information and I think a lot of people are going to want to pre-order Dark Souls for the PS3 or Xbox 360. After all, it’s not every day that you get a limited edition for a standard edition price.

Yes, that’s the incentive this time around…

Ten Fallout: New Vegas survival tips

I feel blessed. Although I’ve heard many reports of bugs in Fallout: New Vegas, for some bizarre reason, I’ve been spared any crashes or glitches, beyond occasional clipping. I’ve also seen quite a few walkthroughs for the game. While it’s nice to know what’s going on, there aren’t many guides for making a character that more »

Important Importables: 2010 DS import gift guide

If you’re looking for a Christmas/Hanukkah/winter holiday gift for a gamer you love, an import video game could be the perfect choice. After all, it’s something your loved one may not have thought of or been able to afford, since they’re usually more expensive than domestic games. Plus, it’s always neat to own a game from another region.

So, once again, Important Importables is putting together a series of import gift guides. This week I have ten import DS game suggestions for people of varying Japanese skill levels. All of the below games are region-free except for one – Pokemon Black and White. So any DS or DSi will be able to play them. And, since it’s only November, you’ll have plenty of time to order and buy them…

How to: Make a Pokewalker fashionable

The Pokewalkers included with the DS games Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver are interesting little pedometer peripherals, but also a bit awkward. Yes, they each come with little belt clips that you can attach to the device so you can easily clip it to a belt, but that can be a bit boring.

I mean, if you don’t wear belts, then you have to attach the Pokewalker a pocket, which may not be as secure. And if your pants don’t have pockets, or you’re wearing a skirt or dress, then there’s no place to clip it. At that point, you’d have to resort to tossing it into your bag, which could prove disasterous. It could emerge scuffed or with buttons inadvertantly pressed, wasting watts. Worse, it could be lost or broken.

So to help you out, Gamertell’s come up with some Pokewalker fashion dos and don’ts. You can easily see what would, or wouldn’t work if you decided to display and wear your Pokewalker…

How To: Fix a broken PSP UMD

PSP UMDs are fragile little things. Without even realizing it, the casing could crack or the little metal circle in the center of the disc could become dislodged.

When using a third party UMD case, I discovered that the tiny metal circle in the center of the UMD disc had been dislodged, and was now freely and happily roaming around the inside of the UMD casing. After consulting with other PSP owners, who told me to turn to bootlegging, and video game store clerks, one of which told me to buy a new game and the other directed me to buy new UMD casings, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

And, in doing so, discovered a simple and easy way to both fix a broken UMD disc and fix a UMD case. Bear in mind, if you follow these instructions to repair a UMD, you will void your warranty. Of course, if you’ve gotten to this point, you probably have no repair alternatives anyway…

Hanako Games’ latest title, Cute Knight Kingdom was recently released, and its somewhat more challenging than the original Cute Knight. There are more factors to account for, plus the ability to explore the game’s world. If a player is more familiar with the original Cute Knight game, which features gameplay similar to the Princess Maker series, the first playthrough or two of Cute Knight Kingdom could be a daunting experience.

In an effort to make things easier, here are seven tips that can help you in your Cute Knight Kingdom adventures. Hopefully they’ll help you figure out what to, or what not to do, and perhaps keep you from making costly mistakes.

How To: Give the gift of WiiWare and Virtual Console games

It’s the holiday season, which means its prime time for shopping for gifts. Online shopping always makes things easier, and choosing an option where the place you’re buying from automatically sends the recipient your gift is even better. Its even easier if you decide to buy your favorite Wii owner a Virtual Console or WiiWare game from the Wii Shop Channel.

Nintendo created the Wii Shop channel so there are two options when browsing a game’s listing. You can either buy the game you’re looking at for yourself, or for your friend. The past few weeks have seen an extraordinary number of WiiWare and Virtual Console games added to the Wii Shop Channel, so there’s a great chance you can do some of your Hanukkah and Christmas shopping online.

If you both have Wiis, then the gift giving procedure is much easier. Now, since you two are already friends, you’ll likely have registered your Wiis with your friend codes. If you haven’t click the bottom right envelope icon on the Wii home screen, bring up the address book and enter your friend’s code

How to: Sell your used games to Amazon.com in 7 easy steps

There are multiple ways to get rid of games you no longer want or need. GameStop, with its occasionally insulting trade-in offers, isn’t the only option anymore. You can go to Amazon, Toys or Us and even some Walmarts to get rid of your gently used games. But, while trading-in at GameStop, Toys R Us or the select Walmart stores can be as simple as just going to the store, trading-in at Amazon involves mailing your games in.

Fortunately, the process for trading-in used games and systems to Amazon is incredibly simple and easy to do. Plus, once you’re done, your Amazon account has a nice credit just waiting to be spent on anything Amazon carries. I recently traded-in my copy of Astro Boy: The Video Game and then got True Blood season one and Guitar Hero: World Tour for $9 instead.

In case you’re curious or concerned about taking the Amazon trade-in plunge, Gamertell’s put together a brief guide to selling the site your old games and systems…

How To: 8 ways to earn ribbons every day in Poupeegirl

Your first day or two on the Poupeegirl website is easy. You get ribbons, the game’s currency, for doing pretty much everything the first time. Ribbons for making a profile, ribbons for adding a friend, extra ribbons for dressing up, you get the idea. But after that first day, earning those ever elusive ribbons that are the key to making your avatar fashionable becomes quite a struggle.

After all, if you want to purchase clothes, accessories and makeup for your avatar from the in-game shops, you’ll probably be spending at least 100 ribbons on each item. You could even spend over 300 ribbons on particularly rare and elusive items. Even some rare market items, where other Poupeegirl users sell items they no longer need or want, can get pretty pricey.

Gamertell’s here to help out a little, with seven things you can do every day in Poupeegirl that could help you earn some precious ribbons. Even better, some of these activities not only help you earn ribbons, they help other people earn ribbons too…
