Mario’s many Guinness World Records

For a humble, mustachioed Italian plumber, Mario has achieved many record-breaking feats since we first met him throwing barrels at an angry gorilla. That is, according to the Guinness World Records 2010 Gamer’s Edition. Dubbing him “The Godfather of Gaming”, Guinness has put together a list of the big M’s (no, that doesn’t stand for Mickey!) records over the last 20 years.

Gamertell Review: Guinness World Records 2009 Gamer’s Edition

The first thing you see when you open the Guinness World Records 2009: Gamer’s Edition is a two-page display of praise for the 2008 book by various print and web publications. You may also notice that Gamertell is not included in that or the second montage in the back of the book.

The likely reason is that my review of the previous book was not entirely glowing and here’s why: The 2008 Gamer’s Edition of Guinness’ Book of World Records was not a journalistic chronicle of of world records as the title suggests. Neither is the 2009 edition…

Guinness makes classic game, pinball tourney a record-breaking event

Guinness is giving any gamer the opportunity to break into the record books by breaking arcade gaming records at the 10th Annual International Classic Video Game and Pinball Tournament scheduled from May 29, 2008, to June 1, 2008, at the Funspot Family Entertainment Center in Laconia, NH.

Gamers who successfully tumble established arcade gaming records at the event will have…

One hundred hit dance mats to make Guinness book

Video games have changed the way we sing and dance, and perhaps for this reason the folks behind the reality series “So You Think You Can Dance” organized a huge video game dancing event. A hundred dancers simultaneously got down on dance pads from the popular dancing game Dance Dance Revolution Universe 2 May 19, 2008, at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angles, CA.

When they were through with their dancing session groovin’ to “Funky House” by DJ Diod and “Progressive Mix” by DJ Hill for 9 minutes and 28 seconds, they had set a new record for the…

Guitar Hero III player gets Guinness World Record

OK, here’s the deal. There’s a guy who can not only beat “Through the Fire and Flames” on expert on Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, but he can get 97% of the notes and get a streak over 1000. In the immortal words of Stan Lee: “ ’nuff said.”

A 16-year-old boy from Rochester, Minn. (USA) by the name of Chris Chike won a tournament where apparently all the contestants were true guitar heroes, as all of them had to play “Through the Fire and Flames” on expert. His victory got him the Guinness World Record for…

Guinness World Records releases first gaming edition

The Boston Herald online recently published a tease of the upcoming gamer’s edition of Guinness World Records, due out in March. The book will be the very first all-gaming edition, and will launch on March 11, 2008.

Among the morsels mentioned in the article was the heated competition between Steve Wiebe and Billy Mitchell for the top Donkey Kong score (the drama that was so perfectly examined in the recent film The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters), along with some of the more impressive sales records (the original NES Super Mario Bros. and Halo 3 are in that category).
