Win copy of JamParty, T-shirt via Facebook contest
Just because Activision put an end to the Guitar Hero franchise doesn’t mean that music-based video games are done for. JamParty: Remixed, which we first encountered at CES 2011, is only one of a handful of new music rhythm games that hope to fill the void left by Guitar Hero. If you’re a Facebook user, you may even get a free copy to try out for yourself.
CES 2011: Up close with the You Rock Guitar digital midi guitar with strings
You’ve seen theThis is an object of seeming conflicting dualities. The You Rock Guitar is a game controller yet not a game controller. It’s a guitar with strings yet not a string guitar. It’s not as much a musical instrument as an instrument for making music.
This device includes a section of strings that you strum yet the strings are about 6 inches long, never need tuning and are not tied t the neck of the guitar. Instead, you press pressure-sensitive frets all along the neck, activating each note much as you would with a real string guitar. You then strum the string to play the note(s)or chord you are fingering.
CES 2011: Jam Party Remixed preview
Just when you think you’ve seen everything there is in music-themed video games, another one comes along. This time however, instead of the usual match-the-colors gameplay you’re accustomed to, this time you get to create your own music with Zivix’s Jam Party Remixed.

E3 2010: Hands-on with Power Gig: Rise of the SixString
I got the chance to try out developer Seven45′s music rhythm game Power Gig: Rise of the SixString at E3 2010. I chose to try out their guitar controller, which is essentially a real six-string guitar on which you can actually play music if you wanted to. The guitar does look and feel like a more »
Rock Band 3 to have real guitar and keyboard
Somewhere, Power Gig’s little heart is crumbling. USA Today reports that Rock Band 3 will offer a real guitar, in addition to the keyboard that was strongly hinted at several weeks ago.
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock controllers will have customizable bodies
Last week we reported that Activision has formally announced the upcoming Guitar Hero expansion called Warriors of Rock, which will have a new guitar controller to go along with it. Now we find out what it looks like.
As you’ll see from the trailer (click through, buddy), the most intriguing part about the new design however, is that all the electronics have been relocated solely on the guitar’s neck and fretboard…
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock unveiled, includes new wireless guitar controller
Yes ladies and gents, it’s yet another Guitar Hero expansion and it comes loaded with new features: new songs, a new storyline, a new challenge mode and *sigh* a new controller. The game is slated for release September 2010…
Guitar controllers defeat zombies in Rock of the Dead
Prepare for a zombie killing music game! Oh, but sorry, PS3 and Xbox 360 owners, it’s a Wii-exclusive, so you’ll just have to decimate zombies the normal way. Anyways, back to Rock of the Dead, the Wii exclusive from Epicenter is a lot like the classic Typing of the Dead, only instead of using a keyboard and typing words to dispatch zombies, you’re using your guitar controller and playing button pattern displayed on each zombie’s chest to defeat them.
IGN was fortunate enough to get the first look at Rock of the Dead, and I am so jealous right now. Seriously, seething, because Rock of the Dead just looks that fantastic. The budget Wii game is going to be out in the first half of 2010, and seems like the game has the potential to rise above cult classic status to become a mainstream hit. After all, it has zombies, an awesome control scheme that uses the guitar peripherals from games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero and the stars of Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog, Neil Patrick Harris and Felicia Day, providing the voice acting…
