The highest grossing videogame ever is Guitar Hero III

A slight taste of irony has washed over the videogame industry. The NPD Group put together a list of the highest selling videogames of all time according to revenue earned. This top ten list contains three publishers – Nintendo, Activision and MTV Games. The top earner on this list is none other than Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock. The game brought in $830.9 million. At this time, GH III has brought in more revenue than Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Kmart discounting consoles and games for the week

Head to Kmart if you’re in the market for a new gaming console. From today (August 8, 2010) until August 14, 2010, Kmart is clearing its inventory of certain console models. Most of them include the original white Wii and old Xbox 360 consoles. The Xbox 360 S is the new standard and the black Wii seems to be here to stay. Also up for a discount are numerous PSP bundles and specific game bundles.

Kmart’s pre-Black Friday 2008 game sales (November 9-15, 2008)

And the sales have begun. In this week’s Kmart print ad, the chain is promoting “Black Friday Price Available Now!” with at least one item. At the top of the game page (page 2) is Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock for PS2 for $44.99 (regular price is $89.99, limited quantities and no rain checks).

The other deals include $39.99 ($20 reduction) for Brothers In Arms: Hell’s Army for PS3 and $10 off when you purchase both WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2009 for PS3 ($59.99) along with Viva La Raza: The Legacy of Eddie Guerrero on DVD ($29.99).

Playstation Store update for the week of March 13-19, 2008

Nothing’s cheaper than something free and there’s quite a bit of that in this week’s Playstation Store update. It’s not just the obligatory demo or themes either. This week’s helping of Guitar Hero III songs comes without any price tag whatsoever.

Otherwise, it’s a pretty run-of-the-mill update though with standard-issue Rock Band songs, various trailers and whatnot. Here’s a list, for it all to be shown in longhand…

Playstation Store update for the week of March 6-12, 2008

After a few horrifyingly slow weeks, the PlayStation Store is showing some very basic signs of life this week, with the addition of Rocketmen: Axis of Evil, which is available in full or free demo flavors. There’s also the PSP version of flOw which is a nice $7.99 version of a free Flash game. Additionally, there’s the standard assortment of Rock Band songs, which are of the Grateful Dead variety, and new Guitar Hero III tracks, which are not.

Target’s PS2 Guitar Hero 3 bundle

Good news for PS2-playing Guitar Hero fans – Target, Activision, and RedOctane have teamed up to create an exclusive bundle for the PS2 version of Guitar Hero 3. Guitar Hero III coming to PC and Mac

Tom Morello to be a featured boss in Guitar Hero 3

It seems that we get a bit more news from either Rock Band or Guitar Hero III every week in anticipation of this holiday’s rock rivalry showdown. This past week, it was Activision’s turn to confirm that Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello will be a boss in Guitar Hero III. Morello will be joining Slash and Bret Michaels in the “celebrity Guitar Heroes showing up in GH III” department.
