Latest PS3 firmware is believed to have stopped hackers
Late last night, Sony released PS3 firmware version 3.60. Its biggest feature was adding online storage for PlayStation Plus subscribers. It also added a power control setting for controllers. What wasn’t announced were specifics on new security features Sony put into place. For the moment it seems hacking attempts on the PS3 have been thwarted.
Frontier Developments founder detests freedom of speech argument from PS3 hackers
Continuing the discussion on the subject of PS3 hacks is David Braben. Braben is the founder of Frontier Developments. His company created such games as Kinectimals, Roller Coaster Tycoon and LostWinds. Braben wrote a post on Develop that explains how he feels about PS3 hacks, and the hackers who claim distributing hacking information to the public is considered freedom of speech.
Rockstar forgives Red Dead Redemption cheaters
It has been about two months since Rockstar banned the Gamertags and PSN ID’s of users who were found to be using hacked save files in Red Dead Redemption. Rockstar gave the accused one week to delete those hacked files or risked getting banned. Some did, and some didn’t. Rockstar feels the offenders have done their time, and will let them back into the world of RDR.
Blizzard is not banning all StarCraft II cheaters
Earlier this month, Blizzard went pulled out the banhammer in full force. Over 5,000 StarCraft II players were banned after they were discovered to be using hacks and modifications. Blizzard is very serious about keeping StarCraft II as fair as possible. We don’t understand why cheaters think Blizzard can’t track their every move when they’re connected to Blizzard’s servers. However Blizzard is not banning everyone for not playing fair. Some players are only getting suspensions.
Dreamcast modded into a Windows PC
I, like many gamers, am particularly fond of the Dreamcast. I still have mine hooked up to a VGA monitor in the corner of my pseudo-office. So you can understand why I had a big smile across my face when I saw that someone had the ambition to convert the Dreamcast into a PC mod. Sheer awesome.
