CES 2012: Hands-on with MicroVision PicoP Gen2 laser display engine

MicroVision PicoP Display Engine (PDE) Gen2 with Board_RGB

I’ve said before that CES 2012 is the stage where we receive a look into the future of gaming. While at the show, I saw some very impressive tech such as eye tracking which could make for some very interesting games. However, gesture controls are still very relevant in the gaming space. In fact, more »

CES 2012: Hands-on with Warrior’s Lair for Vita

Warrior's Lair

I didn’t know anything about Warrior’s Lair before I sat down to play it at CES 2012. A Sony representative told me it used to be called Ruin. The demo station which contained Warrior’s Lair wasn’t necessarily meant to sell us on the game itself. Sony was really promoting the multiplatform gaming capabilities Warrior’s Lair possesses.

CES 2012: Hands-on with Sorcery for PS3

sorcery

Sorcery was one of the first games that made PlayStation Move look cool. Unfortunately, it was nowhere to be found when Move was released. Months went by and Sorcery was still a no show. This seemingly abandoned game has returned and will be available to purchase sometime this year. At CES 2012, I got both more »

CES 2012: Hands-on with the Wii U

Wii U

The Wii U was at CES, but it was far away from ground zero also known as the Las Vegas Convention Center. The Wii U was restricted to a small room in a hotel. I was able to try out a couple games for the Wii U and got to check out a tech demo more »

CES 2012: Hands-on with Kid Icarus: Uprising for 3DS

Kid Icarus

Nintendo had a small presence at CES 2012. It didn’t have booth on the show floor. Instead, I had to travel to a small hotel room where a couple 3DS and Wii U units were set up. I’ll get to the Wii U in an upcoming post. For now let’s talk about Kid Icarus: Uprising.

CES 2012: Hands-on with Wipeout 2048 on PlayStation Vita

Wipeout

I finally got my hands on the PlayStation Vita at CES. My first experience with the handheld was a couple days ago at CES Digital Experience, but I also tried my luck with the Vita in one of Sony’s booths on the CES show floor. This time, I played Wipeout 2048.

CES 2012: Hands-on with the GAEMS G155

GAEMES

On Tuesday evening, I swung by CES Showstoppers to check out some of the gaming-related products. The first booth I walked up to contained the GAEMS G155. You wouldn’t be able to tell what the product is based on the name, but it made up for that with performance. Basically, the G155 is a portable more »

E3 2011: Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon CIty hands-on preview

We had some time to check out Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City at E3 2011. I tested the game along with three other players in a LAN co-op mission to save Raccoon City from a zombie infestation.

We started the demo with six playable characters each with their own set of unique skills and a handful of weapons. The first thing I noticed about the game is that while the textures and visuals remain somewhat similar to RE5, the gameplay mechanics have been tweaked quite a bit. The most accurate game comparison I can draw would be between Left 4 Dead series. I actually had to inquire with one of the Capcom representatives regarding which gaming mode was being demoed (as the sheer number of enemies was reminiscent of a horde/Nazi zombie mode). He assured me that I was indeed testing the campaign mode. In addition, I was able to shoot and run simultaneously.

CES 2011: Hands-on with Dog Football

In Dog Football you play as a human-ish avatar who tosses a toy that a doggie then grabs and runs with while other puppies try to pounce. It’s cute, it’s silly and the few minutes I played this early version seems to be kinda fun. Oh, and there’s that whole bone-shaped cove thing…

CES 2011: Hands-on with the KOR-FX tactile audio feedback device

Increased tactile immersion into a video game – movie , music or TV show for that matter – may be the next wave of tech after 3D-HD becomes the norm. One of the early adopters is Immerz which, at CES 2011, had its KOR-FX tactile feedback device available to try in its booth.
