Gamertell’s 2011 General Gamer Goodies Holiday Gift Guide

Gamers can be difficult people to shop for when the holidays come around. That’s partially because so many are about instant gratification. If a game is due out that one is interested in, odds are the gamer will already have a pre-order in at his or her favorite store. Which means that sometimes gifts that aren’t games, but are game-related, are the best bet.

Of course, there are only so many gift cards you can give. I mean, they’re quite practical and will nicely feed the recipient’s habit, but they’re hardly personal. That’s where general goodies can help. You could find a really awesome and unique gift that’s somehow related to the hobby, but could be hard to find or the kind of item someone wouldn’t normally buy for him or herself.

So, Gamertell’s here to help. I’ve scoured stores and the internet to find the best unisex gamer gifts that aren’t actually games that are under $50. That way you can make someone happy without having to worry about getting them something they already own…

Buy your Harry Potter movies before December 29, 2011

Well Potter fans, it may be time to adjust your holiday wish lists. Warner Bros. has decided it wants to be a buzzkill by locking away every Harry Potter movie ever. Yes, this is for real. The company has decided that if people don’t buy physical copies of the eight movies before December 29, 2011, they won’t be able to buy them at all. After date, they’ll stop being shipped to stores.

It’s quite ridiculous and seems like Warner Bros. has planned this in an attempt make people scramble and buy the physical copies of the Harry Potter movies so the company can make a quick buck…

Cyber Monday 2010: Halo Legends, Harry Potter, Batman Blu-ray movies for less than $10 each

If you need a movie or two or ten to play on your PS3 to prove it does Blu-ray movies well, this is a great day to buy a few.

The Warner Bros. online store has a Cyber Monday sale going on right now that feels more like a Clearing House than a Holiday sale.

Today (Monday, November 29, 2010) only you can get many DVDs and Blu-rays for about 60% off…

Amazon’s Cyber Monday 2010 gaming deals

The time for gorging on delicious foods has come to an end. The energy obtained from turkey was used by many to brave the crowds and cold weather during Black Friday a couple days ago. A lot of the sales have diminished with only a few still holding on through the weekend. You can’t quite rest yet because Cyber Monday is less than 12 hours away. Cyber Monday is the busiest online shopping event of the year, and retailers will once again be nipping at the bit for your cash.

Visit LegoLand’s Xbox Family Gamespace, get a free Harry Potter Broomstick (for your avatar)

If you are in the California (USA) any time soon, you might as well head to LegoLand. Besides all the Lego-y goodness, rides and stores galore, there is a video-game section called the Xbox Family Gamespace.

With an entrance guarded a giant Lego style dinosaur holding a white wireless Xbox controller (and a life size Batman made entirely of Legos just inside the door), the pair of rooms is dedicated to all the recently released Lego console games. The room has a great atmosphere with glowing seats (filled with wireless controllers), offering plenty of butt space for parents who don’t want to partake in the games (foolish folks) or for games with especially decent vision.

Gamertell Review: Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 for PS3

Entries in the Lego video game series are always a delight, and Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is no exception. In fact, it may just be one of the most anticipated and well received entries in the series. It’s no wonder, as it manages to capture the magic of the source material by perfectly recreating the Harry Potter world and delivering whimsical and collectible-filled gameplay…

Get Lego Harry Potter Years 1-4 free when you buy Harry Potter Blu-ray gift set

Amazon has an interesting deal if you adore Harry Potter, own a Blu-ray player and have a lot of spare cash on hand. If you buy the Harry Potter Years 1-6 Blu-ray gift set for $94.49, you get a free copy of Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 for any system you’d like. Looks like some fans will be very busy until Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part I

E3 2010: Hands-on with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

There’s a reason why a colleague of mine jokingly referred to this game as, “Gears of Potter”. Most Harry Potter games (from various developers) are more kid-friendly and you’re looking at the game from a third person, slightly top-down perspective, with colorful graphics. In contrast, The Deathly Hallows is a third-person shooter, except you’re holding a wand instead of a chainsaw machine gun. Even the color palette is muted and gritty.

E3 2010: Lego Harry Potter for the Wii

While at E3 I made my way over to the WB booth to check out the Lego Harry Potter game for the wii.

Like the other Lego games you get to play as many different characters, and can even switch between them at will. Each character has different abilities that might be useful as well.

Xbox 360 gets LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 demo June 7, 2010

I am so jealous right now. If you own an Xbox 360, then by this time next week you could be sampling LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4! Warner Bros. is going to be releasing demos for Traveller’s Tales LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4, and the Xbox 360 one will be available on June 7, 2010. The Xbox 360 is the only platform getting preferential treatment, as PS3 and Windows PC owners are going to have to wait for their demos to magically appear. They’ll supposedly be out sometime in June, probably before the June 29, 2010 release date.

If you own a DS, PSP or Wii, then don’t expect any demos. The Wii never gets downloadable demos for retail games. The DS and PSP do occasionally get demos, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up since Warner Bros. press release doesn’t mention any for either. It’s better to not expect anything and not be disappointed. That way if demos do appear…
