2Bits: Game industry “Oscars” would be destroyed by its own politics
The idea of a video game industry awards show, one much like the Oscars, is a pretty intriguing idea. Much like the Oscars, though, it would most likely fall apart due to industry politics.
One of the great things about entertainment is that some people do it simply because they love to do it. If not, they at least love to please an audience. However, with the multitudes of industry-specific awards, most of the love and life that went into industries including music, film and literature has disappeared…

The Dark Knight’s returning to the big screen January 2009
Chances are, if you’re reading this site, you saw The Dark Knight – and that you liked it. If so, you’ll be pleased to know that the film will be returning to theaters – and IMAX – on January 23, 2008. The moody, beautifully crafted film is a serious contender for Oscar recognition – one of the first “superhero” flicks in recent memory (or ever, really) to have a chance at being so honored.
Of course, the Oscar buzz has been flitting around ever since the film came out in July – with Christopher Nolan’s expert direction and the late Heath Ledger’s phenomenal performance as the Joker.
Dark Knight coming to home video December 9, 2008
While I’m in a BatMood, Waner Home Video today (September 26, 2008) announced that Dark Knight will be available on Blu-Ray and DVD on December 9, 2008.
Since Dark Knight was partially shot using IMAX cameras, the Blu-Ray release will include IMAX and regular ol’ HD footage. Warner is going whole hog with the Blu-Ray and including BD-Live features which, according to the press release, “allows users with web-enabled Blu-ray players to access exciting additional content and connect and share with other BD-Live users…”
Gamertell Review: The Dark Knight the movie
Title: The Dark Knight (aka Batman: The Dark Knight, Batman Begins 2, The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience)Release Date: July 18, 2008Company: Warner Bros.Rating: PG-13Length: 142 min (2 hours, 22 minutes)Pros: A lot of great acting, a well-woven story and plenty of psychological creepiness. The more realistic Gotham City is a well-executed contrast to the inner darkness of the characters.Cons: A little long and a bit too creepy for kids. Only one moment of unbelievability.Overall Score: Two thumbs up; 93/100; A-; * * * * out of five.
Put away your illusions that this is a big-screen adaptation of Frank Miller’s graphic Novel, The Dark Night Returns. While there is a tiny nod or two to the book, this is continuation of the Batman Begins film with a new origin of at least one DC Comics character and a more realistic, visually brighter yet thematically darker take on Batman.
