Used game sales have had such an effect on publishers, a few of them decided to make up for lost revenue by charging for multiplayer. EA, Warner Bros., Ubisoft and Sony are some of the companies that charge an extra $10 for a pass to access multiplayer content from used games. New games come with an activation code that unlocks multiplayer features at no additional charge. Used game sales also affect developers too. Quantic Dream for example lost upwards to $13 million due to used sales of Heavy Rain according to the company’s founder Guillaume de Fondaumiere.

It must be price cut day over at Sony’s headquarters, because now a few beloved PS3 games are a lot cheaper. You guessed it, there are five new additions to the Greatest Hits line of games! Suddenly $30 goes a lot further in the video game world.

All five are popular PS3 games, so there’s a good chance some of you spent a lot more money on them in the past few weeks…

Heavy Rain is one of the best examples of a modern game that feels like a movie. This feeling was encouraged by the limited interaction players would have outside of scripted sequences. Some people (like myself) felt Heavy Rain‘s story was one of the best in 2010. Others saw it as a garbled mess. Hollywood sees it as a good opportunity to make some money.

This is the time of year when everyone starts putting getting the best/worst lists for 2010. Since this is New Year’s Eve, there’s no better time for me to post my favorite games of 2010. This year I tried to give the “other” games recognition instead of the obvious picks. Still, there is one game on my list that I couldn’t set aside. These are my favorite games that I’ve played in 2010.

For the next hour or so, Amazon has three lightning deals in place on three games. Today is an epic day for PS3 owners over at Amazon. Amazon always has a video game deal of the day, but also has gold box offers each day with amazing discounts going on for limited periods of time. And today (September 21, 2010) there’s a PS3 event. So all day you can stock up on awesome stuff for your system. Just remember to order when you see the sale item, because they go quickly…

PlayStation Move doesn’t officially release until this Friday (September 17, 2010), but some retailers are selling the hardware and software early. Regardless of when you actually get your hands on Move, you won’t be able to use it to play Heavy Rain until a almost a week later.

In the era of CSI, NCIS and a couple million “true crime” shows on cable, it’s no shock that Heavy Rain’s search for the Origami Killer has taken its first steps towards becoming a movie. Unique Features, the studio started by former New Line Cinema executives Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne. won an auction for the film rights to the PlayStation 3 crime hit. Game industry insiders are already drawing comparisons between Heavy Rain and the movie Seven, a thriller that was a huge hit for New Line Cinema.

I recently played through Heavy Rain for the first time. I enjoyed it so much, I managed to get through it in less than one day. But there are some instances while playing where I found myself thinking,” How is that possible?” Even though Heavy Rain has a great story and really does feel like an interactive movie in hindsight, it has some large plot holes.
