Japan Import: Hori releasing a 3DS steering wheel for Mario Kart 7

If a console has motion controls, you better believe some third party is going to take advantage of that and release accessories and peripherals that are designed to enhance the playing experience. Those who thought the 3DS was immune since it’s a handheld are wrong. Hori’s come through with what could end up being the first motion controller for the system, a steering wheel designed to work with Mario Kart 7.

Here’s how this ¥1,280 ($17) accessory works…

Tekken 6 Limited Edition is Amazon’s Deal of the Day

Amazon’s video game Deal of the Day for June 5, 2011 may be an older game, but it’s still a fantastic deal. Limited editions of video games typically don’t last long enough to experience a price drop. Most devoted gamers immediately snatch up special versions of games they know they’ll love. Amazon must have had some copies of Tekken 6‘s special edition left over, because the Tekken 6 Limited Edition Wireless Fight Stick Bundle is now on sale…

Japan Import: Hori makes the PS3 portable with the HP3-87 LCD screen

Screen peripherals for consoles isn’t too uncommon. Nearly every console, including the current generation, has had at least one released. But Hori is taking the concept a step further with an HD LCD portable screen for the PS3. The LCD Monitor HD 3, model HP3-87, has an 11.6 inch screen, LED backlight and 480i and 720p support. It also will be compatible with the Japan-only Torne DTV adapter which allows you to watch and record TV on your PS3.

The LCD Monitor HD 3, HP3-87 won’t be out until May 27, 2010. That means you have almost two months to decide if it would be worth buying. It’ll cost ¥26,040 (~$277), almost as much as PS3 alone, so it isn’t really an impulse purchase item. You’re probably going to want it only if you do a substantial amount of traveling. And even then – at that price you could get a DS and PSP instead…

Important Importables: Reviewing import PSP screen protectors

I’ve always seen my PSP as more, delicate than my DS. Perhaps it was the construction of the flimsy-feeling UMD tray. Or maybe it was that very large, very vulnerable screen. Either way, I found myself worrying over the system, and taking greater care in storing it – putting it in a separate little coin purses, with an old eyeglass cleaning cloth wrapped around the screen. (The DS, on the other hand, gets tossed into purses and backpacks without a second thought.)

My primary concern for Sony’s handheld system is the screen. Its big, beautiful and a magnet for fingerprints and scratches. When I got my PSP Slim, it was fairly new here in the US and there weren’t many protection options available. So I, and my friends, resorted to importing to keep the screen safe.

So today, Important Importables looks at six imported options for keeping your PSP’s screen protected. Four of the options are simple screen clings, that you place only over the PSP’s screen. The other two are hard case options, that can be used to protect the entire face of the PSP or the entire system’s surface.

Japanese Import: Hori Classic Controller for Wii

In some production lab deep within the mountains of Japan, Japanese peripheral company Hori spliced together a Nintendo GameCube controller, Nintendo Wii functionality and a whole lot of auto-firing.

The result on that stormy night was the Hori Classic Controller. Hori’s take on the “classic controller” offers two auto-fire settings (double and triple from the looks of it) for every button via a switch. It also looks like it’s mainly for use with…
