Tetris: Axis is Nintendo and Hudson’s foray into 3D Tetris
If there’s one thing about Nintendo consoles and handhelds that holds true, it’s that the game library always includes at least one Tetris game. The world would probably end if it didn’t happen. Thankfully, we don’t have to worry about the consequences of a Tetris-less game library, as Tetris: Axis is coming to the 3DS on October 2, 2011. Prepare to see tetrominos flying at you in 3D!
Since plain old Tetris isn’t enough for people anymore, most modern Tetris games have a gimmick. Tetris: Axis is no exception…
Hudson Entertainment America is gone
Hudson Entertainment will be shutting its doors at the end of February. The company announced its closure today. Hudson Entertainment was the San Mateo, CA arm of Hudson Soft. Hudson Soft itself is located in Japan, and will continue to operate at full capacity. In fact, Hudson Soft will still hire new employees. Konami recently purchased Hudson Soft, and will use the acquisition to improve its stance in the social gaming arena.
Konami buying out Hudson Soft
Konami already owned controlling interest in Bomberman creator Hudson Soft so the company’s announcement that it is purchasing the remaining shares is not a huge shocker.
Konami bought more than 50 percent of Hudson’s shares in 2005 and, on April 1, 2011 (no fooling), Konami will purchase the 2.5 million shares remaining.
Hudson Soft will be delisted from the stock market March 29, 2011, with CEO Michihiro Ishizuka stepping down. Konami Digital’s Kazuhiko Uehara will take over the reigns. Bomberman will then officially join the Konami impressive catalog of characters alongside Simon Belmont and Solid Snake.
Gamertell Review: Calling for Wii
Hudson Soft’s Calling is the latest survival horror game for the Wii. There have been plenty of these as of late, and Calling is happy to wedge itself somewhere between Ju-On: The Grudge (a haunted house simulator) and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (a psychological thriller), except that Calling is actually better than both. You heard me…Calling is better than Silent Hill: Shattered Memories, and that’s simply because it’s scarier. Much scarier.
Gamertell Review: Help Wanted for Wii
The Wii’s known as a haven for mini-game collections. The sort of games which take advantage of the motion control abilities, are appealing to a wide audience, accessible to players of all ages and happen to be affordably priced.
Hudson’s Help Wanted is one of these collections. It’s pretty versatile too, with a Job Battle multiplayer mode that offers four ways to win and a Career Fair mode which lets you practice playing the 50 mini-games. The most interesting part is the Employment Office story mode, where all of the games are unlocked and players strive to save the world by taking part-time jobs. It may not be the perfect Wii mini-game collection, but it’s definite one of the more interesting ones…
