Labor Day Deal: $6 off Dominions 3 for a limited time

Although Dominions 3 (Windows, Linux, Mac) normally sells for near $55, Shrapnel Games has generously reduced the price to $48.95 until September 8, 2010. This still might seem high for an ancient game from 2006 but Dominions 3 is one of those games where, if you measure in hours of play, that kind of price comes out to a few pennies an hour at best..

Gamertell Review: Dawn’s Light for PC

I’m going to start by being brutally honest – when I first saw the John Wizard Games site for Dawn’s Light, with the initial screenshots and trailer, I wasn’t all that impressed. Indie RPGs can tend to look the same after a while, and the way everything was presented, I was thinking it was going to be just like the others. I had no idea that it would end up being one of the best PC games I’d play all year. John Wizard Games’ first title guides players along a long and memorable adventure.

Life starts out kinda sweet for Harvey. He and his brother, Victor, live on an island with their beloved Grandad. Then, one day, someone invades their personal paradise. Grandad tells Harvey to hide inside the house while he finds Victor. Unfortunately Mordecai, a masked man with a yet unknown agenda, discovers Victor first. Mordecai claims Victor is the key to something and kidnaps him. Grandad realizes Harvey isn’t safe there, and takes him to another island where he leaves him at an orphanage in the care of a nun named Tracey.

Seven years later, and things are once again going pretty well for Harvey. He’s found a pleasant enough life on the island, with its 11 other inhabitants. He’s come of age, and is looking for something to do…

World of Goo PC demo now available for download

World of Goo is a physics-based puzzle game developed by independent developer 2D Boy — a two man organization founded by ex-Electronic Arts employees Kyle Gabler and Ron Carmel. It was released as both a WiiWare and Windows PC download earlier this week (October 13, 2008).

World of Goo first entered the spotlight when it received the Design Innovation and Technical Excellence awards at the 2008 Independent Games Festival, in addition to being nominated for the Seumas McNally Grand Prize award (which was eventually given to Kloonigames’s Crayon Physics Deluxe).

The premise of the game is…

Comic Con 2008: International Independent Film Festival winners

During Comic Con 2008, many games and comics were featured. And who wouldn’t want to attend a special preview of today’s most talented directors and animators create independent film masterpieces. The Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival consisted of movies that fell into seven categories: action/adventure, animation, comics-oriented, documentary, humor/parody, horror and science fiction/fantasy. On July 27, 2008, the top films in each category were announced and awarded.

This year’s Comic-Con International: Independent Film Festival are…

Gamertell Review: Gamers on DVD

Title: Gamers (aka Gamers: The Movie)Price: $24.95 (DVD)Release Date: May 6, 2008Distributer: Monterey Media, Inc.Rating: UnratedPros: A good mix of both subtle and outrageous humor with engaging characters. Surprisingly well made and funny or an indie film produced in six days.Cons: Starts a little sluggish and goes a little odd with a couple gags.Overall Score: Two thumbs up; 90/100; A-; * * * * out of five

Screw the lame-ass box art. Gamers is a great indie flick that will make anyone who has ever rolled something other than a 6-sided die snarf milk all over their mother’s teak coffee table.
