InstantAction is shutting down
Last month, InstantAction’s CEO Louis Castle explained how cloud gaming services require internet connections that most people don’t have. Castle said InstantAction uses less data than these services and is more reliable over slower connections. We did a video demonstrating some of InstantAction’s games such as Monkey Island and Instant Jam. Though the service ran with minimal issues, there were a whole slew of other games that were waiting to be released. It would have been nice to see what InstantAction could become, but unfortunately it won’t be around for much longer
Video: InstantAction in action
Earlier today we ran a story on the comments Louis Castle, CEO of InstantAction had to say about OnLive and Gaikai. Even though Castle is impressed by the technology that allows OnLive and Gaikai to stream console quality games through the internet, he still has reservations. Basically Castle thinks aforementioned services depend too heavily on internet connection speeds that the majority of people don’t have.
InstantAction launches the Fallen Empire: Legions beta
Fallen Empire: Legions, the Tribes-esque, first person action browser game has just entered the public beta. The GarageGames Studios game is only available through GarageGames Studio’s InstantAction, a browser game site also in its beta phase. Players can sign up for InstantAction (it’s free), and then play Fallen Empire: Legions anytime they want. (Be advised – you need Windows XP SP2 or Vista to play!)
Fallen Empire: Legions is a 3D browser game which allows players to play alone or with others in two available modes – Deathmatch and Capture the Flag. Once you decide what class you want your character to be (chaingun specialist, grenade specialist, gunner, rocket specialist, sniper and sniper specialist are all available) and what weapon to use (chaingun, grenade launcher, rocket launcher or sniper rifle), you can then choose what mode to play in and if you want play on teams or on your own.
InstantAction in open beta
InstantAction, a new online game hub, has just entered its open beta phase. The service provides free, 3D in-browser games for members. So far only four games are initially available, but five more are also planned. The site also offers incredibly accessible multiplayer options, as friends can be invited to join a game through a URL link.
Tribes-like web-based game video leaked
The Tribes series of games were only moderately successful, but acquired a cult status with quite a few players still playing games in the online sci-fi shooter game series. Leaked alpha-level game videos hint at the return of Tribes-esque gameplay. The videos were serendipitously discovered by Shacknews.com, as they were available through unprotected website links more »
