Surprise! I know, this week’s column was supposed to be about Nendoroids, but don’t worry. We’ll look over those cute little figurines next week. Since Valentine’s Day is Monday, I figured it would be more appropriate to offer a little list minute list of possible import-ish gift suggestions that you can give your special someone this year.

Now, since overseas shipping probably isn’t an option at such a late date like this, almost all of the gift suggestions below should be available in a specialty store near you. I may toss in an online shopping option if there’s an expedited shipping option so you could probably have the gift arrive by February 14, 2011…

Handmade items always make a fantastic gift, no matter what the occasion, but they’re especially suitable for Valentine’s Day gifts. It’s a good way to make someone feel special, since you’re getting them what could be a one-of-a-kind item that’s exactly his or her taste.

Sadly, not all people are crafty enough to create their own gifts. A good alternative is to check out the various shops at Etsy.com. Many of the artists selling their wares there have a wide variety of items and gadgets appropriate for your video game valentine.

I’m not even a huge Zelda fan, but I know what I want, nay, need to get for Christmas. Etsy user YellerCrakka has created what may be the cutest, and most stylish, Legend of Zelda related piece of jewelry – the Bottled Fairly Necklace. This handmade accessory simple, yet elegant, and would make a perfect gift this holiday season for the Zelda fan in your life. Its the sort of accessory where only other fans of the series would be able understand its true significance.

For $15.00, you can get a handmade bottled fairy necklace of your own. The actual pendant portion is about the size of a nickel, as demonstrated by a picture on the product page, and features a tiny pink, purple, blue, gold, red, green, pink or teal colored Legend of Zelda fairy, complete with wings and glittery appearance, inside a sealed bottle.

I think the fact that YellerCrakka used a blue tinted glitter goo inside was a wonderful idea. As the artist states, this means that the charm may slowly shift back and forth inside the bottle, making it seem more “realistic”…

Square Enix has just announced that the Square Enix Store is going to start stocking some high-end Kingdom Hearts jewelry. Fans of the series will be able to purchase official keyblade keychains (available in three different designs) or a charm bracelet and charms. All items will be online exclusives, and will start appearing in the store between August 30 and September 13, 2008. The three metal keyblade keychains will be available in Kingdom Key, Oblivion and Oath Keeper styles. The charm bracelet will come with a heart charm, but Mickey, Kairi, Sora, Roxas, Keyblade and Heartless charms will be sold separately…

Gimmeswords has used her artistic talents to accomplish an amazing feat, she turns classic Nintendo icons into fashionable jewelry. Using polymer clay, she crafts adorable charms. Her Nintendo earrings (pictured above) were recently featured on Sprite Stitch.

Gimmeswords also runs a Etsy store filled with a variety of video game related jewelry. I couldn’t help admiring her Wiimote/Nunchuk earrings and goomba cell phone charm. She also has quite a few tabletop gaming charms as well, so every kind of gamer is covered.

In anticipation of Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII, the Square Enix online shop is going to be updating with a slew of new jewelry items related to the game. All of the items silver and made of very high quality materials. Prices are not yet available for all of the items, however on March 7, 2008 all three will be available online in the store so be sure to check them out then. The three new additions are the “Loveless” locket, a SOLDIER keychain and a Sephiroth ring.
