Former LucasArts president trying his hand at politics

The video game industry could gain a powerful Washington ally in Arizona’s 2010 Congressional election.

Former LucasArts head Jim Ward, who resigned from the company in 2008, wants to be the next US representative from Arizona’s 5th Congressional District. The district includes Scottsdale, Tempe and parts of Phoenix. He’s running as a Republican against two-term Democrat Harry Mitchell. Ward is using his business experience at LucasArts as a key campaign component.

On Friday (February 1, 2008) it was made official that Jim Ward, the president of Lucasarts, would be leaving the company over what he claimed were “personal reasons.” Margaret Grohne, PR director of Lucasarts, told Kotaku that he never alluded to exactly what he meant by that.

Instead, he left a congratulatory statement with the site about the work Lucasarts did during his tenure…
