Experience the world of BioShock in book form
Next week on July 19, BioShock: Rapture will be released. No, this isn’t another game in the BioShock franchise. BioShock: Rapture is a new book written by John Shirley and Ken Levine. This 400+ page book details the beginning of Rapture, the underwater utopia envisioned and created by Andrew Ryan. BioShock: Rapture will delve deep into the fiction of Rapture and explain exactly what went wrong in this city under the sea.
Ken Levine announces BioShock Infinite
Speaking to a packed hall of journalists on Wednesday night (August 11, 2010) at the New York Plaza Hotel, BioShock creator Ken Levine and his studio Irrational Games unveiled their latest project called BioShock Infinite. However, unlike the first two games which took place in the murky depths of the sea, this game is situated in a corrupt, floating city called Columbia.
Almost Games: Division 9, the original Left 4 Dead (with video)
Division 9 originally was a sort of spin-off to Irrational Game’s SWAT series. The funny thing is that no one thought a zombie game would sell back then. Right before Division 9 was set to be sold to Vivendi, Take-Two purchased Irrational Games and turned the game into vaporware.
Job posting reveals 2K Boston’s next project
Ah, thanks to the power of the internet, and just a little bit of snooping, we just got a look at 2K Boston’s plans for the future. According to V is for Videogames, the studio listed a “multiplayer lead designer” position on it’s corporate site, with job responsibilities that include:
Keynote Speaker at PAX 2008: Ken Levine
For those of you who don’t know who Ken Levine is, he is the founder and creative director of 2K Boston, and the keynote speaker for the 2008 Penny Arcade Expo. His impressive resume consists of System Shock 2, the Freedom Force series, Tribes: Vengeance and, of course, Bioshock.
I was not certain what to expect when Ken Levine took the stage, but the last thing I was expecting was his autobiography. Not only that, he talked about his adolescence and how he “wanted to have sex with the Scarlet Witch”. (This is not an actual quote, as I am censoring how he actually phrased it.)
Levine went on to explain how his love for comic books, video games, and other science fiction made him feel like a nerd to the other kids. However, he eventually found his “Tribe” in a group who played Dungeons and Dragons. Unfortunately, as his friends grew up, they became more interested in women than dice, and his group broke apart…
Ken Levine and 2K Boston kindly working on something very different
If you’re like me (a wildly obsessed BioShock fan), this will come as welcome, if cryptic news. According to an article at GamesIndustryBiz, Ken Levine and 2K Boston are working on a project that is “very different” from their previous effort, BioShock…
