The King of Fighters Encounter offers a new approach to fighting

SNK Playmore and Kayac have just added a rather unique take on King of Fighters to iTunes. The King of Fighters Encounter is a combination of social networking game and StreetPass seeking. Well, StreetPass is what 3DS owners would call it. I guess everyone else would refer to it as a tag-mode game.

When you download the free The King of Fighters Encounter to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, you’ll be able to take part in fighters with your favorite KoF characters without expending any effort…

The King of Fighters-i gets a free update, temporary price cut

The King of Fighters-i is now officially better than it’s ever been. SNK Playmore has just updated the iOS fighting game to give more people even more content for their $7.99. When the game originally launched on July 7, 2011, with its 14 fighters and multiple game modes, it was pretty awesome. Now with it’s September 9, 2011 update, it’s even better.

That’s because all players get even more content for free…

King of Fighters XIII playable at EVO 2K and Otakon, comes with 4 CD soundtrack

Atlus is really going to spoil people who purchase The King of Fighters XIII for their PS3 or Xbox 360. I mean, you think it would be enough to get a great fighting game with lots of characters, a Story mode with multiple endings influenced by decisions players make with playing, three kinds of Online Versus matches, a Mission mode and a Tutorial mode. Nope! Atlus decided that each pre-ordered copy of the game should also come with a four CD soundtrack set…

Crown the new King of Fighters in October 2011

Atlus’ E3 2011 announcement of King of Fighters XIII was a bit of a surprise. It wasn’t totally unexpected, since the company has covered a North American release of a King of Fighters game before, King of Fighters EX2: Howling Blood (GBA), but I’m sure it still raised a few eyebrows. Prepare for that to happen again, since the PS3 and Xbox 360 game is going to be released sooner than you think. Like, October 25, 2011 soon.

In addition to the release date announcement, Atlus also released a brand new, gameplay trailer…

Gamertell Review: The King of Fighters XII for PS3 (Updated)

The title King of Fighters is well known among fighting game fans. The series has spawned some fantastic games, like King of Fighters ’98, the original or Ultimate Match version released. The series has delivered some of the best 2D fighters available. Now, SNK Playmore has completely updated and revitalized the series with the latest entry, King of Fighters XII.

King of Fighters XII is a bit of a fresh start for the series, a new approach to the successful fighting formula SNK has been going with since 1994.

The first thing that hits you are the visuals. They’re all completely new…

Prepare to patch The King of Fighters XII PS3 owners, Xbox 360 owners have to wait

Some owners of the recently released PS3 version of SNK and Ignition’s fighting game The King of Fighters XII noticed something wasn’t quite right. I’m talking about the online multiplayer matches. There was, and still is for some users, an incredible amount of lag during said matches. The game will pause or slow to a crawl during online play, making it near impossible.

Ignition has already stepped in and up and is working with SNK Playmore on a solution. A 772mb PS3 patch addressing KOF XII‘s online play has already been released to try and help remedy the situation until a permanent solution can be found…

Gamertell Review: The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match for PS2

Street Fighter IV is expensive – $59.99 for the PS3 or Xbox 360. Meanwhile The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match, with 64 fighters and tons of gameplay modes, only costs $19.99. On top of that, you’re getting the chance to play a historical game which didn’t get the respect or release it deserved in North America when it was originally released. Not to mention it has retro charm, especially with the NeoGeo The King of Fighters ’98 ROM built in.

Just because something is old, doesn’t make it bad. The King of Fighters ’98 Ultimate Match is a classic fighter. It is going to challenge you and make you appreciate how wonderfully hard-core the original game was. It may not be as flashy as current fighting games, and the computer controlled opponents may be unforgiving, but fighting fans would be remiss if they let this release pass them by…

Wii Virtual Console update for the week of January 7-13, 2008

This week on the Virtual Console, Nintendo is breaking tradition and offering up two games instead of three. Thankfully, they’re both well worth your time and Wii shop points: NES RPG Star Tropics and Neo-Geo brawler King of Fighters ’94. Star Tropics in particular is a bargain – it’s a colorful, fourth-wall breaking steal at $5.

All titles are available on the Wii Shop channel, with a fresh batch arriving every Monday at 9 AM PST. Wii points can be purchased at a rate of $1=100 points. This week’s additions bring the North American Virtual Console total to 192.
