Nintendo downloads for May 17, 2010

This week is filled with incredible new downloads for Nintendo systems. Really, I mean it! There are quite a few new, great games, and you should definitely take a look through at some of them.

The main attraction is Looksley’s Line Up for the DSi, which is a 3D hidden object game that actually has you looking at 3D dioramas. They really look like they’re in 3D, thanks to some neat little tricks with the DSi cameras. Not only that, but Bit.Trip Runner and Kirby Super Star are both making their WiiWare debut this week!

Gamertell’s Nintendo Download picks for the week are Looksley’s Line Up (DSiWare), Bit.Trip Runner (WiiWare) and Kirby Super Star (Virtual Console).

Nintendo holding special events for Kirby Super Star Ultra

A cryptic Nintendo press release has revealed a special event for this Thursday (September 18, 2008). Nintendo is going to be at Kirby Middle School in Birmingham, AL, Kirby Historical Mill in Medford, NJ, Kirby Park in Kingston, PA and Kirby Gate Shopping Center in Memphis, TN for a “Celestrial Event.” Of course it’s talking about Kirby Super Star Ultra, the remake of the SNES game Kirby Super Star.

Nintendo hasn’t discussed what kind of goings-on will be happening at any of the four locations. The press release just states that at 8:30am-12:30pm Central time and 9:30am-1:30pm Eastern time, something special will be going down. Also, it states that someone from Nintendo will be giving interviews at Kirby Middle School. Since it says Nintendo authority, it could be an official representative, or maybe even Kirby himself.

Kirby Super Star returns as Kirby Super Star Ultra

A new Kirby game is headed to the DS! Well, technically it is an old Kirby game made new again. Nintendo has announced that Kirby Super Star Ultra, a remake of the SNES game Kirby Super Star will be released on September 29, 2008. (I know I said I wanted to try to only write about music games, but we can let this slide.)

Kirby Super Star Ultra is getting the super star treatment in this remake. The visuals will be tweaked and optimized, and there will be fully animated cut scenes inserted into the game. There will also be two new game modes – Revenge of the King (likely starring King Dedede) and Meta Knight Ultra (again, likely starring Meta Knight). There will also be new multiplayer functions added, in the form of three mini-games playable over local wi-fi and the ability to play the game over local wi-fi.

Thanksgiving 2007 Mashup: A few of our favorite uses of food in videogames

To celebrate Thanksgiving, the Gamertell staff is taking some time off to be with our families (and very likely play videogames in the other room for many, many hours). As a special, tasty treat for this holiday, here’s a look at the Gamertell staff’s favorite uses of food in videogames. Enjoy! Amy Sutton: My favorite more »
