Review: Kirby’s Return to Dreamland for Wii
It’s been a long time since we’ve seen a true Kirby adventure on a console. Kirby’s Epic Yarn was innovative and adorable, but it was more of an experimental gimmick and lacked the inhaling Kirby and plethora of powers we know and love. The last time Kirby really did his thing was back in 2000, when Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards was released back on the N64. Thankfully, Kirby’s Return to Dream Land brings us back to the formula we know and love.
Something’s happening on the planet Popstar, and it’s up to Kirby and his friends to save the day…
Kirby’s getting another Wii adventure
For many people, Kirby’s Epic Yarn wasn’t the Kirby game they were waiting for. It was absolutely cute and has amazing visual effects, but it was seriously lacking in the swallowing all kinds of enemies and blocks department. Plus it was substantially easier than the typical Kirby adventure, which is really saying something since Kirby games are never that hard to begin with. The good news is, it looks like the next Kirby game will deliver everything people disappointed with Kirby’s Epic Yarn have been dreaming about…
Gamertell Review: Kirby’s Epic Yarn
Kirby’s Epic Yarn is entirely adorable. Not only is it fun to play but it’s almost equally fun to watch, exuding classic platforming fun in every single stitch.
It’s all so very cute yet not in a disgustingly-covered-in-icing or swarming-with-pretty-pink-flowers sort of way. Instead it’s a clever design theme that is executed very well and works well throughout the game. Instead it’s like a gaming blanket – a digital Snuggie, if you will – that will keep you warn this Holiday season.
If video game characters aged realistically
Artist Katie Hampton has created some amusing images that feature classic video game characters aging in real-life situations. Most of her drawings focused on classic Nintendo characters.
E3 2010: Hands-on with Kirby’s Epic Yarn
You’ve gotta hand it to a developer if they create a game that looks so adorable, it makes you want to pick it up and cuddle it to pieces. Nintendo’s Kirby’s Epic Yarn is such a game.
If I owned Nintendo
Many Wii’s are collecting dust in entertainment centers around the globe. Third party Nintendo games almost always yield lower than expected sales and gamers turn their attention away from the Wii for months at a time. I have come up with a plan that would revitalize the Wii for an entire year. It’s a simple plan, an obvious plan but Nintendo focuses on other issues. Here is what I would do if I owned Nintendo.
Kirby on Wii still a reality
Kirby fans, take heart. The long-in-development (and thoroughly mysterious) platformer that’s been talked about since the old Gamecube days is still slated for a Wii release. According to a recently released report that includes upcoming Wii launches, the pink puffball will have his day – spy the “Hoshi No Kirby” entry in the primary Nintendo launch schedule. We’re just not sure when.
Valentine’s Day 2010: Great handmade gamer gifts from Etsy
Handmade items always make a fantastic gift, no matter what the occasion, but they’re especially suitable for Valentine’s Day gifts. It’s a good way to make someone feel special, since you’re getting them what could be a one-of-a-kind item that’s exactly his or her taste.
Sadly, not all people are crafty enough to create their own gifts. A good alternative is to check out the various shops at Etsy.com. Many of the artists selling their wares there have a wide variety of items and gadgets appropriate for your video game valentine.
To make shopping easier, Gamertell has gone through some of the Etsy shops to put together a list of some of the best, homemade video game gifts. If you buy something now, you should be able to get it in time for February 14, 2010…
Kirby clouds invaded the skies
Back on Tuesday, Gamertell reported that Nintendo was going to be holding a mystery event yesterday (September 18, 2008) promoting Kirby Super Star Ultra at various locations with “Kirby” in the name. It turns out the ‘event’ was Nintendo and Flogos releasing thousands of Kirby-shaped clouds into the air. So if you live in Birmingham AL, Medford, NJ, Memphis, TN or Kingston, PN and you thought you saw pink Kirbys floating through the air, you’re weren’t hallucinating. You were just seeing a really cool marketing promotion.
Gamertell reader Brian left a tip on the original story, alerting us to the presense of Kirby clouds and mentioning that Flogos‘ clouds are made of biodegradable soap and used to promote items and events. For today’s event, the company used its machines to create pink iconic game character replicas. In an official press release from Nintendo, Greg Stanhope of Flogos stated that the Kirby clouds mark Flogos’ first use of colored clouds for a campaign…
Nintendo holding special events for Kirby Super Star Ultra
A cryptic Nintendo press release has revealed a special event for this Thursday (September 18, 2008). Nintendo is going to be at Kirby Middle School in Birmingham, AL, Kirby Historical Mill in Medford, NJ, Kirby Park in Kingston, PA and Kirby Gate Shopping Center in Memphis, TN for a “Celestrial Event.” Of course it’s talking about Kirby Super Star Ultra, the remake of the SNES game Kirby Super Star.
Nintendo hasn’t discussed what kind of goings-on will be happening at any of the four locations. The press release just states that at 8:30am-12:30pm Central time and 9:30am-1:30pm Eastern time, something special will be going down. Also, it states that someone from Nintendo will be giving interviews at Kirby Middle School. Since it says Nintendo authority, it could be an official representative, or maybe even Kirby himself.
