E3 2011: Tecmo Koei has a 4-game lineup

Tecmo Koei doesn’t have too many games at E3 2011 this year, but it still has a presence at E3 2011. The company has four games to show off at the show, which are available on multiple platforms. Whether you prefer consoles, cell phone gaming or only play on Facebook, Tecmo Koei may have a game for you.

Let’s look at the games attendees can test out and see at Tecmo Koei’s booth in the South Hall…

PlayStation Meeting 2011 reveals NGP, PlayStation Suite

Well, the Sony PlayStation Meeting 2011 has just finished in Japan and we know now all the latest juicy tidbits about the newest member of the PlayStation family, the PSP2. Which is apparently now called the NGP. Sony Computer Entertainment CEO Kaz Hirai took the stage to start off the event, which didn’t just focus on the new handheld. First, Hirai talked about the PlayStation Suite…

Brace yourselves for Dynasty Warriors 7 on March 22, 2011

My cup runneth over with excitement! 2011 will usher in one of the best games I will ever play. The drama! The excitement! It’s all too much to bear! We’ll talk more about that game later, but this story is about Dynasty Warriors 7. Did you catch that zinger?

Dynasty Warriors Online beta now open to all

The hack-and-slash franchise, Dynasty Warriors, is being turned in to a MMO and has been in closed beta for a few weeks.

Aeria, the game’s publisher, has opened the Dynasty Warriors Online beta as of yesterday (November 2, 2010) allowing anyone to get into the online chop-chop action.

UFO abducts Monster Racers and Monster Rancher DS

If you were still hoping that Monster Rancer DS would be released this month, even though there’s been little to no news about it, you should probably sit down. Tecmo Koei isn’t handling it anymore. UFO Interactive has taken the reigns for both Monster Rancher DS and Monster Racers.

Both games are still coming out, but the timeline is different. Monster Racers is going to be released in Summer 2010, and Monster Rancher DS‘s release date is now unknown. Originally, Monster Rancher DS was supposed to be out March 30, 2010, with Monster Racers following a few months later.

In each game you’re working with monsters…

Nintendo publishing Wii-exclusive Samurai Warriors 3

Nintendo picked today, March 16, 2010, to announce that Samurai Warriors 3 is coming to North America. Yup, Nintendo’s working with Tecmo Koei to bring us the Wii-exclusive entry in the Samura Warriors series. It’s nice to see companies work together for the greater good. Samurai Warriors 3 came out December 3, 2009 in Japan, and has a Fall 2010 release window for North America.

Samurai Warriors 3 is a hack-and-slash action game set in the Sengoku period of Japanese history…

Important Importables Review: Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 2 (Koei Selection) for PSP

Koei’s Neoromance line is quite popular in Japan. Rather than referring to one series, it refers to multiple series, Harukanaru Toki no Naka de, La Corda d’Oro and Angelique which are designed to appeal to female gamers. All Neoromance games have some sort of RPG, simulation or strategy element to them, combined with dating simulation and relationship building elements. Harukanaru Toki no Naka de is designed to appeal to female gamers with an interest in Japanese history. Harukanaru Toki no Naka de is the second entry in the series, and has appeared on Windows PCs, the PlayStation 2 and finally the PSP.

Harukanaru Toki no Naka de 2 starts in a manner similar to the original Harukanaru Toki no Naka de. Like Akane, Karin is from modern Japan. (You can change her name.) She is summoned to the past, specifically a region called Kyo in the Heian period. There is a split in government over who should be the emperor, the current emperor or the last emperor. There are also all kinds of demons and monsters appearing around Kyo.

Karin is chosen as the Ryujin no Miko…

E3 2009: Koei to debut two new games in its E3 lineup

Koei’s just announced what games it’ll be bringing to the party that is E3 2009. The funny thing is, only one of the games is a Koei staple you’d expect to see. I don’t know about others, but I expected Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors and Gundam, not Zill O’ll, Warriors: Legends of Troy and Monster Racers.

E3 2009 is going to be a hallmark for Koei. For the first time, the company is going to debut new games in North America. Typically, all new Koei games first appear in Japan. It’s a real honor, and another thing that will make E3 2009 special.

Let’s look through the games Koei’s announced they’re bringing…

Opinion: Opoona’s the best Wii game no one’s playing

If I had known of Opoona’s existence earlier, it would have been enough to convince me to instantly purchase a Wii.

That wasn’t how I encountered ArtePiazza and Koei’s novel RPG.

Instead, I happened on the game by chance. I was wandering through a local GameStop, checking the Game Days ’09 sale table one last time and searching for a Mothers’ Day present when the strange box caught my eye. I picked up Opoona and was intrigued by a sentence that declared, “Make friends with citizens from other planets to unlock new jobs and adventures.” I hadn’t heard anything about the game. There were no raving quotes from video game publications plastered across the box to proclaim its greatness. There was, however, a $14.99 “New” price tag across the front. I decided to take the plunge.

I never thought that I would be purchasing my new favorite Wii game…

Tecmo announces Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for Playstation 3

Tecmo knocked the socks off of the lucky individuals who were invited to experience the announcement of Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 for the Playstation 3. The event was held March 24, 2009, at the Playstation store located at the Metreon in San Francisco, California. There, gawkers were treated to an adrenaline filled trailer showcasing some pretty interesting new elements to be included in the PS3 version of this formerly Xbox 360 exclusive title (Ninja Gaiden 2).

There, a slew of brand new beautifully rendered backdrops and for Ryu Hayabusa to mince oncoming hordes against. Adding to that were the inclusions of all new bigger than life bosses (literally) that included scenes of a huge Buddha statue knocking over a temple on its way through a city as well as Ryu facing off against a perturbed Statue of Liberty bringing to mind the phrase “hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”. It’s best to think twice before angering a lady, especially when she’s 300ft tall and could squish you like an ant under her titanic sandal.
