Kongregate Arcade is back in the Android Market

Kongregate Arcade had a short-lived existence in the Android Market. The same day it made it to market, Google pulled the app down. Kongregate later learned Google felt Kongregate Arcade was functioning like a competing app store. Despite the seemingly obvious differences between Kongregate Arcade and an app store, Kongregate was forced to retool the app to get it back on the Android Market.

Kongregate Arcade vanishes from Android Market

Earlier today, Kongregate Arcade was released on the Android Market. It brought with it 300 flash games within the app for free. Though not every Android device can run it, it does provide the Android operating system with a boat load of games that are easy to find, and optimized for touch screens. If you search for it now in the Android Market, you’ll notice it doesn’t exist. Google has pulled Kongregate Arcade from the market for unknown reasons.

Kongregate brings hundreds of games to Android

Android devices can be used to play games, but they’ve always taken a back seat to iOS devices. Perhaps Android fragmentation is the culprit here, or maybe it’s the way the Android Market is organized. Whatever the reason(s), Kongregate is hoping to fill the Android gaming void with its new Kongregate Arcade application.

GameStop owns Kongregate now

GameStop’s made a new acquisition, and this time it’s somewhat unexpected. You may recall how it seemed like the company wanted to start getting into free, browser-based games. The GameStop site does have that whole Free2Play section, with games like Legends of Zork and Gangsta’ Zombies. Now, GameStop’s hoping to expand it’s influence with Kongregate.

Kongregate is a free, online game site filled with browser-based, Flash games made by Kongregate users…

Kongregate wants to teach you how to make flash games

Want to be the next great flash game designer? Maybe you’re a budding game designer/artist, but you don’t have the fortune to drop on a design degree? Well, Kongregate Labs has your number. The site is featuring a series of eight tutorial videos (the first three are up now, with the last five to follow in later October and early November), covering the basics of flash and the basic design of a simple shooter. There’s even a little contest for new flash designers – the best new game (from a first-timer) will net the winner $250, while second and third will get $150 each.
