Fresh Tomb Raider details leak out

Square Enix officially announced Tomb Raider yesterday. Tomb Raider is a reboot of the franchise that will start by telling the origins of Lara Croft. The first details on the game are included in the January 2011 issue of Game Informer magazine. Since this is the internet, scans from the magazine have already been leaked. The entire cover story is now online and we’ve cherry picked some of the more pertinent details for you.

Lara Croft gets really roughed up in next Tomb Raider

Lara Croft’s next adventure has been confirmed in the January issue of Game Informer Magazine. As you can tell from the photo, Lara has seen better days. Lara was apparently involved in a really bad ocean storm and ended up on a beach. It sounds like Cast Away without the plane and volleyball. This new game entitled Tomb Raider, is going to take the series to a place it has never been before.

PlayStation Plus Update: Stop an evil spirit and live by the creed (September 21 to 28, 2010)

This week’s PlayStation Plus feature is a free beta of Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light for the PS3. Keep watching for exclusive betas in October 2010 starting with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood.

PS3s and PCs get Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light next week, minus coop

It’s taken over a month, but finally Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is making it’s way to other platforms. It’s period of Xbox 360-exclusivity will end September 28, 2010, when it arrives on the PS3 and Windows PCs. But it isn’t quite cause for celebration yet. While it will hit the PlayStation Store and Steam on time, and cost $14.99, it won’t be exactly complete. There won’t be any online cooperative multiplayer…

If video game characters aged realistically

Artist Katie Hampton has created some amusing images that feature classic video game characters aging in real-life situations. Most of her drawings focused on classic Nintendo characters.

An Amanda Evert doll will cost you $160

Video game collectors with quite a bit of cash to spare should start saving up for the Tonner Doll Company’s rendition of Tomb Raider‘s Amanda Evert. The Amanda Evert doll, which you can see in an image at the right taken by Kotaku’s Stephen Totilo, made its debut at the 2010 Toy Fair at the Javits Convention Center in New York.

Amanda Evert, which will cost $160 once released and isn’t the first Tonner Tomb Raider doll. There are four other dolls inspired by Tomb Raider, and they’re all different variations of Lara Croft. There was an exclusive, limited edition, Classic Beauty Lara Croft, a $169.99 Tonner Direct exclusive, Full Throttle Lara Croft, a $189.99, Tonner Direct exclusive, Let’s Go Off-Road Lara Croft and a basic, $124.99 Tonner Direct exclusive Lara Croft doll.

Kotaku also reports that the Tonner Doll Company display also had Prince of Persia prototype dolls of the Prince and Tamina on display…

Layoffs hit Crystal Dynamics after disappointing Tomb Raider Underworld sales

In the wake of what Eidos considered lackluster holiday sales for Tomb Raider Underworld, developer Crystal Dynamics laid off approximately 30 people on Friday (January 9, 2009), according to Kotaku. Ironically, Crystal Dynamics is the developer hailed for breathing life back into the Tomb Raider franchise after it had become synonymous with sequelitis.

Even Underworld doesn’t seem to be a flop by reasonable standards, having sold 1.5 million units in a crowded holiday season filled with blockbuster titles. The true answer may lie in a look at Eidos’ stock price, which dipped by 25 percent after the company announced the latest Lara Croft installment had failed to…

Lara Croft gets virtually fashionable

In a truly bizarre blend of fashion and videogames, ten fashion designers are competing to create a “virtual outfit” for Lady Croft’s newest adventure – the upcoming Tomb Raider: Underworld. It gets better – not only is this a competition, it’s an event – complete with real-life and virtual models strutting down the catwalk. On November 8, 2008, at 9 PM, the festivities will commence at The Society for Arts and Technology (SAT) in Montreal, as part of Festival Arcadia.

Really.
