Odd top ten co-op game list draws criticism
Gameranx recently released its Top 10 list for best co-op games, to mostly jeers in the comments.
As it happens, I’ve played many of these titles and I tend to agree with the comments and not so much with the list…
Steam is having another fantastically amazing sale
For the next 19 hours or so, Steam will be having one of its trademark sales. Great games are discounted as high as 85% off. It’s moments like these where you can actually be happy you haven’t bought a gift for the PC gamer yet. Instead, you can buy a whole mess of games on Steam for one low price. The sales here will last today only, and will be replaced by new deals tomorrow.
Get both Left 4 Dead games for $10.19
You won’t find a better videogame deal today. Left 4 Dead was just updated with The Sacrifice DLC. To commemorate the loss of one of the original survivors, Valve has placed Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 on sale until 4pm tomorrow (October 7, 2010) through Steam.
Left 4 Dead 2 comes to Mac tomorrow
Mac owners have been left out in the cold for too long. While everyone gets to kill countless zombies and partake in extra content, you’ve been left holding you mouse. Your wait is almost over. Starting tomorrow (October 5, 2010) Left 4 Dead 2 will be available on Macs.
Valve learns from hasty Left 4 Dead 2 release
When Left 4 Dead 2 was announced at E3 2009, many gamers were flabbergasted. This was a sequel that was scheduled to be released a year after the original Left 4 Dead. Valve hadn’t delivered on the downloadable content it promised for L4D, and it appeared as though the company was merely cashing in on the franchise. The outrage over the sudden release of L4D2 has since subsided, but Valve has learned an important lesson from all this.
Choose who dies in new Left 4 Dead expansion
Valve will soon release The Sacrifice, a new expansion compatible with both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. It fills in the storyline gaps between the games that lead to The Passing, the expansion in which the two game casts meet each other. It will also allow players to choose which of the original game’s survivors doesn’t get to be called a “survivor” anymore.
Valve is promoting community-made Left 4 Dead 2 campaigns
Valve is a glowing example of the success a game can achieve through developer/community interaction. In the past, Valve produced mutated game types every week for Left 4 Dead 2 to give players something new to experience. The community also had the ability to create their own unique maps and campaigns if they possessed the expertise. Valve is taking some of those community created campaigns and presenting them to the rest of the community in a big way.
Valve gives away Left 4 Dead 2 to banned players
Steam ran into a pretty big problem over the past two weeks. The service had been erroneously banning gamers after they were thought to be cheating in Modern Warfare 2. Steam banned around 12,000 Steam accounts from accessing MW2 much to the surprise of everyone. This meant either there were a ridiculous amount of cheaters on Steam, or something had gone terribly wrong.
You got swords in my Left for Dead 2
Every week Valve adds a new game type to Left for Dead 2. This helps keep the game feeling fresh and satisfies the community who look for constant support in games after release. This week is all about melee combat with what Valve is calling Four Swordsmen of the Apocalypse.
Dead Rising 2 will not get censored in Australia
Perhaps Australia’s controversial Ratings Classification Board is lightening up a bit. Capcom’s zombie horror sequel Dead Rising 2 got an MA 15+ rating. That carries some warnings about its content but does allow it to be sold. This is a far cry from the events in 2009 that saw Left 4 Dead 2 be refused classification twice. That game was finally released in an extremely toned down version removing much of the violence and things that make it Left 4 Dead 2.
