Gamertell’s 2011 General Gamer Goodies Holiday Gift Guide
Gamers can be difficult people to shop for when the holidays come around. That’s partially because so many are about instant gratification. If a game is due out that one is interested in, odds are the gamer will already have a pre-order in at his or her favorite store. Which means that sometimes gifts that aren’t games, but are game-related, are the best bet.
Of course, there are only so many gift cards you can give. I mean, they’re quite practical and will nicely feed the recipient’s habit, but they’re hardly personal. That’s where general goodies can help. You could find a really awesome and unique gift that’s somehow related to the hobby, but could be hard to find or the kind of item someone wouldn’t normally buy for him or herself.
So, Gamertell’s here to help. I’ve scoured stores and the internet to find the best unisex gamer gifts that aren’t actually games that are under $50. That way you can make someone happy without having to worry about getting them something they already own…
Double Eleven is only making games for Sony
UK-based game development studio Double Eleven is currently working on the new LittleBigPlanet game for Sony’s new PS VITA (Sony’s new handheld system, announced by Sony at E3 2011). Double 11 announced yesterday (July 19, 2011) that it has signed a deal tomake games exclusively for Sony and its various platforms.
Double Eleven is a relatively new UK development studio formed by some of Rockstar Leeds former lead-engineers who worked on titles including Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories and Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Double Eleven revealed itself at E3 2011 as the architects behind the technology driving LittleBigPlanet on PS VITA.
The Japanese PlayStation Store is finally back online!
The Great PlayStation Network Outage of 2011 first went down on April 20, 2011. North American, European, Australian and some Asian gamers went 24 days without any PSN services until they were restored May 15, 2011. They had to wait until June 1, 2011 to get access to the PlayStation Store again. Of course, that seems like nothing compared to what Japanese and other Asian territories have had to go through. Initial PlayStation Network services only first resumed there on May 28, 2011 and now, after over two months, the Japanese PlayStation Store is finally back online….
E3 2011: LittleBigPlanet Vita has a lot in common with LittleBigPlanet 2
LittleBigPlanet has appeared on every possible Sony platform since it’s been released, so everyone knew it was coming to the PlayStation Vita. I doubt anyone was shocked when Sackboy showed p on the handheld at the Sony E3 2011 press conference. The Vita version will be tailor-made for the portable, with touch screen controls and all kinds of new levels and creation tools.
In a way, LittleBigPlanet for the Vita may give LittleBigPlanet 2 owners deja vu…
Media Molecule auctioning LittleBigPlanet artwork, goodies for Japan charity
Looks like Sackboy is also lending a burlap-covered helping hand to the people of Japan, as developer Media Molecule has announced that they’re conducting five auctions. Four of them involve original works of art, while the fifth is an in-game item coveted by many LittleBigPlanet fans.
Kmart’s January 9-15, 2011 ad makes older games more appealing
Kmart’s January 9-15, 2011 ad has a full page filled with video game deals. The only downside is, none of the deals pertain to new releases. Still, there are a number of good games on sale and if you have a gift card from the holidays, you could get some good games you may have missed when they first came out.
First, let’s look at the bigger deals. If you buy a 320gb PS3 for $349.99 and then also buy an extra DualShock 3 controller at the same time, you’ll pay $34.99 for the controller instead of $54.99…
Fill your life with PS3 Greatest Hits with Amazon’s 10th day of Deals
Today is a pretty good day for PS3 owners. It’s day 10 of Amazon’s 17 Days of Deals in Video Games, and for one day only (December 9, 2010) a bunch of PS3 Greatest Hits games have been reduced. Well, a better term would be general hits, since some of the reduced games aren’t part of the Greatest Hits line. I doubt anyone is going to complain about that, since everyone appreciates a good sale game.
So, here are the 10 PS3 hits that are on sale today…
Sackboy’s Prehistoric Moves confirmed for PSN
A little over a week ago, a filing from the Australian Classification Board was discovered by Siliconera. This filing was for something called Sackboy’s Prehistoric Moves. Speculation suggested this was a game being developed for PlayStation Move. Those guesses were accurate. Sony has confirmed Sackboy’s Prehistoric Moves as a PSN download on December 14 for $5.99.
LittleBigPlanet could be getting a spinoff
You can create any scenario you want in LittleBigPlanet. Media Molecule is making it possible for us to take our imaginations to even greater heights with LittleBigPlanet 2. That’s what makes the franchise so unique. Just about any situation we would want to see Sackboy get into can be created from scratch. But there appears to be at least one idea that warrants a whole new game in order to exist. That plausible game is called Sackboy’s Prehistoric Moves.
Kmart selling 250GB PS3s for $299.99, 250GB PS3s with LittleBigPlanet for $349.99
If you’re heading back to school, a new PS3 could really make your room shine. Granted, it may be difficult to justify such a purchase, but Kmart’s recent 250gb PS3 price drop may make the decision a little easier. The Kmart website listing shows the system as being on sale for $299.99, $50 off the normal $349.99 price…
