Valve will soon release The Sacrifice, a new expansion compatible with both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2. It fills in the storyline gaps between the games that lead to The Passing, the expansion in which the two game casts meet each other. It will also allow players to choose which of the original game’s survivors doesn’t get to be called a “survivor” anymore.

The thing about being the Single Mac Gamer is that you spend quite a bit of time looking into the past. A couple weeks ago, I recapped and updated a list of my favorite one hit Mac gaming wonders from years past. Perhaps some of you went out these games yourselves. I hope that went well for you. Either way, here are some more you may recall with a sigh, a smile, and some thoughts of what could’ve been.

When you hear the term “one hit wonder,” you undoubtedly think of Ebn-Ozn. Makes perfect sense. I, on the other hand, think of Squeegee Software. Bands, after all, aren’t the only groups of hard working individuals who never receive that follow-up phone call after one mostly, moderately, somewhat successful date. The Single Mac Gamer, therefore, opens his little black book to revisit (and update) my list of Top 10 Mac Gaming One Hit Wonders.

I certainly hope those of you out there who consider yourselves hard core gamers aren’t just playing driving games, FPSs and MMORPGs. Adventure games can offer just as much entertainment value, albeit a different type of entertainment. They’re largely a solitary experience, as playing puzzle-based adventure games with someone else can lead to destroyed friendships and marriages (“I’ve **** already clicked on the **** loose stone five **** times, you **** idiot!”).

Last week, Valve finally brought Steam to the Mac. Steam is a digital distribution platform for computer gaming, which is nothing new for Mac Gamers, as deliver2mac; GameAgent and others have been diligently digitally delivering games for quite some time now. So, why get excited about Steam? Because whenever a “PC only” service embraces the Mac, you get excited. More importantly, though, because of the titles.

When you think of think of intense Hollywood action thrillers, one name comes to mind: Vin Diesel.

Actually, that’s entirely untrue. Many names come to mind, and Vin Diesel likely isn’t at the top of that list. He’s there, sure, but have we forgiven him yet for making The Pacifier? No. You can forgive Jackie Chan for The Spy Next Door because most of us would have to live to 150 in order to subject our bones to the abuse his had seen by the age of 35. But Vin Diesel…no. The Pacifier is still unforgivable.

Good thing Dwayne Johnson came along to make The Pacifier look like a brilliant career move for Vin…

When you think of hardcore gaming action, do you also think of men in skirts and sandals parading around on elephants? Well, you’re not alone, surprisingly. When I posted an article in January of 2009 that Feral would be bringing Rome: Total War to the Macintosh, it was greeted by comments of excitement as the estimated release date approached. And passed. And approached again. And passed again. And again. And again. And again. But it works like this sometimes.

About a week ago, I left Macworld Expo feeling good about the state of gaming on the Macintosh. I mean, can I really hold game publishers responsible for not making the trek out to San Francisco? Hardly any developers were there this year, but the expo still managed to pack in the faithful. I think many of the companies who took this year off will return in January 2011. But for now, screw them. Let’s talk about one of the companies that did bother to show up for Macworld Expo: Telltale Games.

Appletell’s Editor-In-Chief waxes nostalgic for the days when Apple attended Macworld and the Mac was the best computer system for playing games.

“I used to go to Macworld Expos in New York City, and there used to be games there. Plenty of games. Aspyr, Freeverse, Ambrosia, MacSoft, MacPlay and more. There were gaming pavilions with competitions and prizes. Displays with forthcoming games. MacPlay pitched a tent and donned fatigues to promote their latest first-person shooter, and MacSoft drove me around Manhattan in a limousine. I won’t tell you that times have changed but…”
