Blast From the Past: Nintendo Power Volume 48 from 1993
With CES going on next week, we decided to post the next edition of Blast From the Past a little early. This time we have the May 1993 issue of Nintendo Power magazine. Nintendo Power started in the late 80s and is still hanging around today. At 19 years old, this particular magazine is filled more »
Obsidian and THQ bringing us South Park: The Game
A new South Park game is currently in development at Obsidian, and will be published by THQ. South Park: The Game was revealed today as the January 2012 cover game for Game Informer magazine. As with all Game Informer reveals, details will be very scarce until either the magazine reaches subscriber’s mailboxes, or until someone leaks the article online.
E3 2010: World exclusive Nintendo game to be revealed
E3 2010 begins in a little over one month and it’s time to start the hype train. Nintendo is releasing one of its biggest games Super Mario Galaxy 2 later this month on May 23, 2010 so it has to have something huge in store for E3. According to the Official Nintendo Magazine, a world exclusive Nintendo game will be detailed in its June 16, 2010 issue.
Famous Gamer: Melissa Joan Hart
I interviewed Melissa Joan Hart a few month ago when she was still getting ready for Dancing with the Stars (she was eventually given the fancy dance boot late October 2009). Naturally, I had to ask if she played video games.
In our talking about things that she geeks out about, she mentioned two iPhone (and iPod Touch) games: Flight Controller and Uni Sudoku…
Recession Effect: The end of Geek, Play and Girls of Gaming magazines
Three more game-relate print pubs have crumbled under the force of an economic recession and inexpensive online competition.
Fusion Publishing recently filed for Chapter 7 Bankruptcy, essentially shutting down Geek Monthly Magazine, Play Magazine and Girls of Gaming.
The company has not been responding to inquiries from fans, subscribers and former writers so most of the news about the publications being shuttered comes from former writers. I can confirm from online contact with Geek‘s former Editor, Jeff Bond, that Geek has officially been shut down.
Bayonetta is probably going to be really, really good (if you believe Famitsu)
Platinum Games’ debut title, Bayonetta, is coming out next week in Japan and, according to Japanese game magazine Famitsu, the game is good.
The first looks at the game are getting perfect scores from different reviewers in Famitsu magazine. This honor had been reserved only for games like Metal Gear 4 and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time so if this is any indication, this game shows a lot of promise…
Japanese Import: Dengeki Girl’s Style, the otome fan’s bi-monthly magazine
Japan is a country that specializes in niches and otome (games directed at female gamers) games are no exception. Since otome games are such a common commodity among the female population of gamers, there’s even a magazine wholly dedicated to it called Dengeki Girl’s Style. Dengeki Girl’s Style finds it roots with Dengeki PlayStation, a more »
EGM plans to rise from the dead
Let’s take a quick break away from all the E3 2009 headlines for an uplifting story about death and resurrection. Last January (2008) the final issue of EGM magazine graced store shelves after 1UP was acquired by the Hearst Corporation. We all had a moment of silence to remember the legacy of the 20 year publication and marked it as another victim of a failing economy coupled with a growing irrelevance of print media.
Our weeping would be sort lived as almost five months later we learn EGM would be making its glorious return in the second half of 2009.
Delta’s Sky magazine tries to get hip with “chick click” article
In the January 2009 issue of Delta’s Sky magazine - you know, that thing you end up reading because it’s in the seat pocket in front of you because you’ve seen everything in the SkyMall Catalog already – there is an article that attempts to educate the the uncomfortable masses about female gamers who are becoming game developers.
The article, titled “Crossing the (Gender) Divide” [sic], focuses on formerly frustrated gamer Vanessa Paugh who decided to create her own Quake levels. She found several of the game’s levels so gorgeous that she wanted to…
Hardcore Gamer eBay auction actually worked
As you may remember, we were pretty skeptical that little known game magazine Hardcore Gamer would find a bidder in its eBay auction.
Not only did Doublejump Books find a buyer, but the New York Times covered the story. The new owner, not named in the Times article because the deal is still being finalized, swooped in an hour before the listing expired. He offered publisher Tim Lindquist more than…
