Important Importables: 10 great Korean MMOs to try

While it’s nice to read about import games, sometimes it’s also a little sad. I mean, you may not have the language skills necessary to play a foreign game. Or, more importantly, you may not have the funds. Importing games can get quite expensive, as you have to handle shipping and games are typically more expensive in other regions. So this week, Important Importables is going to focus on some games you can play – translated MMOs.

Korea is fast becoming known for creating quality MMOs. Best of all, companies are taking notice and these games are being translated and released in other regions. That means it’s time to salute some of these games, pointing out 10 that you can immediately download and start playing. You get all the joy of playing a game from another country, only in your own language and at quite an affordable price…

Black Friday 2009: Nexon games’ cash shops offer discounts

Black Friday is a good way to take care of your friends and family, but perhaps not so good for internet buddies. After all, you may just be fellow guild members in an MMO, or close enough to want to give a gift, but not actually buy it and mail it out. If you and your online friends play one of Nexon’s free-to-play MMOs, then you’re covered.

Nexon has just announced that the cash shops for Combat Arms, Dungeon Fighter Online, MapleStory and Mabinogi will all have sufficient discounts and sales in each shop. Each games’ cash shop sale will be different though.

Combat Arms will have a Black Friday sale running from November 27-29, 2009…

Spread the love: MMO Valentine’s Day 2009 events

Valentine’s Day is quickly coming, but perhaps your loved one isn’t nearby. If you’re in the middle of a long distance love affair, it may be a good time to check out a free-to-play MMO, and take part in one of the special Valentine’s Day events to show your special someone just how much you care about him or her.

After all, nothing says devotion like staying at home, on your computer, for a minimum of two hours, all so you can complete certain objectives together and maybe earn some kind of special token that displays your feelings.

So let’s look at what some MMOs are up to…

Ahoy MapleStory! Pirates on the starboard side!

Avast landlubbers! Talk Like a Pirate Day may be over for this year, but Nexon is adding an expansion to MapleStory which will make it feel like Talk Like a Pirate Day all year long. A pirate expansion, to be more specific. Now, players can choose a pirate class for their avatars and visit Demethos, a whole new Mabinogi area.

There are five special events going on to celebrate the pirate update. The first is a Demethos Double / Double event which lasts from November 12-26, 2008 and gives players double experience and item drops in Demethos during the event period. The second is a contest, running from now until December 14, 2008 – the first player in each world with a pirate at level…

Nexon and 7-Eleven team up for “Where You Play for Free” Slurpee campaign (update)

Okay Nexon fans, head over to 7-Eleven during your lunch break or after work. Why? Free-to-play MMO Halloween 2008 event review

If you’ve ever dabbled in one of the many free-to-play massive multiplayer online games, you’ll know that each one celebrates real world holidays in their own way. Halloween is no exception, with many different games from Nexon, Aeria, Joymax, IGG, GameMasters.com, GamesCampus, Outspark, Gametribe.com, Ntreev and OGPlanet all hosting special events to coincide with the holiday season.

So, to make things easier on you, Gamertell has looked throughthe MMOs from the above publishers and compiled a list of the spooky happenings in select MMOs. Most of these events last until shortly after October 31, 2008, but many MMOs are hosting multiple Halloween events with multiple expiration dates…

MapleStory murderer arrested in Japan

In Miyazaki, Japan, a 43-year-old female MapleStory user was arrested by police for killing her in-game husband’s character after the 33-year-old male user virtually divorced her. The scorned women then logged into his account, using information he had given her during better times, and completely deleted his character as retribution. Talk about a messy break-up.

The man, who lives in Sapporo, Japan, then notified police and the woman was arrested for “inappropriate computer access.” She is currently in police custody in Sapporo. The consequence for her MapleStory murder could be…

Gaia Online to include in-world instant messaging

I just received a message from Gaia online today that asked a strange question: “Hi Lucy, What do Neopets, MapleStory and Habbo all have in common?”

Out of curiosity I logged into my Gaia Online account to see what Kate Pietrelli, an account manager for TriplePoint (Gaia’s PR agency), is typing about and, sure enough, along the top of the page is the option to send an instant message my fellow Gaians…

What $10 will buy in free MMOs

Free massively multiplayer online (MMO) games are abundant these days, but the free part is often deceptive. Yes, the games can be played and enjoyed without breaking out a credit card but many feature a premium shop filled with exclusive little goodies.

In some cases cash, shop purchases will allow players to customize their character or items (weapons, pets, etc.) bought from the shop can make adventuring a little easier. In the case of Mabinogi, for example, certain shop purchases even allow players to participate in special quests and storylines…

So I decided to take a look through the premium cash shops in some of Aeria, Nexon and Ntreev’s games and determine just how much fun $10 can buy in some of Aeria, Nexon and Ntreev’s free MMOs.
