Treasures of Montezuma 2 was one of the games we featured in our Android holiday gift guide. It’s a really fun match-3 game that relies on totems to initiate special techniques that can really boost your score. To my surprise, Alawar Entertainment released Treasures of Montezuma 3 today in the Apple App Store. Trust me when I say this game is really fun.

Poor Bub and Bob. The bubbles just never stop coming and now, thanks to New Bust-a-Move, they have 80 more stages filled with bubbles to pop. Not only that, but New Bust-a-Move also includes special boss stages in each area, which will make things even more challenging for those little dinosaurs. As you can probably guess, this is the latest incarnation of the Bust-a-Move series and has been created with the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad in mind…

This week’s Casual Friday update goes back to the basics. If you like classic casual games that want you to find objects, match blocks/gems/jewels or manage something, then keep reading. There are six games that want you to do just that. I’ll admit, stuffing Abigail and the Kingdom of Fairs (Windows) into the time management category is a bit reaching, since its more of a simulation game where you have to set up a fair, but the character is managing fairs so it works.

This is also a week that has more special editions than usual. There’s Delicious: Emily’s Childhood Memories Premium Edition (Windows, Mac) and Stray Souls: Dollhouse Story Collector’s Edition (Windows). This means you get a few extra levels or puzzles than normal, and perhaps some screensavers or wallpapers for your computer. If you want cheaper standard versions of those games, you’ll have to wait a few weeks…

iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch owners don’t need to lament their lack of Bejeweled 3-style matching goodness this weekend. Namco Bandai has stepped up to provide another casual gaming option. Puzzle Quest 2 is now on iTunes for $9.99 and it looks just as good as the PC and Xbox 360 versions…

Prior to Labor Day 2010, the Game Show Network (GSN) is giving DirecTV subscribers a free preview weekend of the Game Lounge service.

Game Lounge is offered on DirecTV’s channel 110 and, according to the web site, includes more than 70 games. The freebie weekend is September 3-4, 2010 (ie Labor Day weekend)…

I suppose it was bound to happen. Puzzle Quest‘s success was not going to go unnoticed, and the copycats are coming out. At least Genimo Interactive LLC’s Puzzle Hero doesn’t look like it was just slapped together.

In Puzzle Hero, you play a hero whose little brother Tristan’s been kidnapped by a Zalock and his henchmen. Players go through match-ups on the map (like in Bust a Move or Puyo Pop‘s story modes) until they reach Zalock. Each match features the grid of icons on the bottom, and the hero and stage’s villain on the top. You then must match up similar icons in groups of three to deal damage. Sound familiar? You can also purchase equipment for your character between fights.

D3 Publisher of America recently announced more release platforms for its wildly popular puzzle/RPG hybrid, Puzzle Quest. Gamers can expect the Wii, PS2 and PC versions to arrive Fall 2007, with a mobile incarnation coming in early 2008. An Xbox Live arcade version (already announced) is also arriving soon.
