Max Payne coming to mobile devices in high definition

Not only did this morning bring news of a Max Payne 3 release window and a multiplayer announcement, Rockstar also revealed it’s bringing back the original Max Payne. No, we aren’t going to see this game a part of a new HD collection. Rockstar is shrinking down Max Payne for mobile devices.

Max Payne will return, older and crankier than ever

The trials of Max Payne, while not always beneficial to the title character, have proven worthwhile experiences for Gamers who have both played and enjoyed his first two games. That interactive enjoyment failed to translate to movie-based success, as both moviegoers and critics universally rejected his silver-screen debut (although it did go on to make a respectable box-office earnings).

Fortunately, for fans of Max Payne’s gaming experiences, the chance to live his life has arrived, as Rockstar has announced that Payne’s third adventure will see release for Playstation 3, Xbox 360 and PC Winter 2009.

Gamertell Review: Max Payne the movie

Title: Max PayneRelease Date: October 17, 2008Company: 20th Century FoxRating: PG-13Length 100 minutesPros: The storyline is close to the storyline of the game, being adapted in a couple of places so to not push away people who weren’t interested in the game. It appeals to the people who haven’t played the game and makes them interested in at least giving the game a shot. The special effects are incredible.Cons: Realism is all over the place. Some of the camera work is distracting. When it’s supposed to be subdued to goes too big and when it’s supposed to be big it becomes subdued. The present-tense scene-setting is one massive continuity error.Overall Score: One thumb up and one sideways, 80/100, B-, *** out of five.

For those who actually went to see Max Payne in the theaters, it was met with mixed reactions. Some people thought it was great and some people thought it was a good movie, just not a good Max Payne movie. There were also people who thought that it was simply horrible. Then there were the people like me who thought it was adequate. What it did right was dead on and what it did wrong were just things that could use a lot of improvement…

Alan Wake is alive! New trailer confirms game’s reemergence

When Alan Wake was unveiled to the public, I, along with other gamers, expressed interest in its premise. It featured the titular author trying to make sense of his life after the loss of his fiancé resulted in his suffering from insomnia and being treated at a sleeping clinic in Bright Falls, Washington. Wake then sees a woman who resembles his fiancé, dreams about her and quickly writes a book. Sadly, unlike the last time, where Wake’s dreams were pleasant, these new rounds of imaginings are nightmarish in nature, forcing Wake to find answers in Bright Falls.

As this game was helmed by Remedy, the same developers who created Max Payne, expectations dictated that the game would progress to become successful. Sadly, that has not been the case, as the game had essentially vanished from public view, nearly ensuring it a place alongside Duke Nukem Forever as a game that looks, sounds and plays well, but will never see release due to problems that exist behind the scenes.

A new trailer has since surfaced detailing the…

Max Payne movie brings maximum pain to 3D Realms’ CEO

Apparently, Max Payne’s cinematic efforts caused more damage than he expected.

Along with a poor reception by critics, the Max Payne film also drew the ire of Scott Miller, the CEO of 3D Realms. His problems with the film consisted of it failing to capture the essence of the source material that it is based on.

Speaking with Edge Online, Miller detailed the errors that the Payne film made. One error he mentioned was…

Max Payne makes a killing at the box office

When it was announced that Max Payne, the third-person action game developed by Rockstar, would receive the cinematic treatment, gamers were excited. After all, the game was regarded as one of the best in terms of storytelling and thus did an excellent job in allowing players to empathize with Payne’s various tribulations throughout the experience.

Sadly, those heightened expectations did not lead to critical praise, as it was roundly criticized by reviewers left and right. By the time the dust settled, Max Payne would end up being dismissed by everyone as just another failed example of a video game property making an…
