First Darkspore details revealed

The Maxis game reveal that is scheduled for Comic-Con is non other than the long awaited Darkspore. Darkspore was created in the same vain as the highly successful Spore. In Darkspore, players will tour the galaxy gaining allies to help them defeat minions of Darkspore. The game will be available in early 2011 for PC and Mac.

Take your Spore creatures to the next frontier with Spore Galactic Adventures

EA’s next Spore expansion pack’s release date is creeping closer. On June 23, 2009, Spore Galactic Adventures will be available in stores. Unlike the previous $19.99 Spore Creepy and Cute Parts Pack expansion, the Spore Galactic Adventures expansion costs $29.99. There’s a good reason for it though!

The previous parts pack expansion for Spore just added in some additional creature parts and movements. So your characters could be customized further in the Creator Creator mode or the Creature Stage phase of Spore. The Spore Galactic Adventures expansion adds new depth and life to the Space Stage portion of the game.

See, the Spore Space Stage is typically all about exploration, diplomacy, trading and colonization. You’re typically searching for planets, creating colonies on uninhabited planets, getting spices from colonies and dealing with other empires and space pirates. It’s more about the big picture than a single creature.

In Spore Galactic Adventures, players get to refocus in on a single character again, like they did in the Creature Stage…

EA might allow Spore to create more than virtual life forms

With today’s technology getting better each year, its no wonder that games like Spore developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts, can wow players and developers alike. In an article posted in the Rocky Mountain News, if EA so chooses, it could license out Spore technology to other interested developers as an “engine…”

Spore fans react to DRM fiasco with creativity

The release of Spore has been one of great fun and perhaps even greater frustration. The game itself has been getting favorable reviews from many outlets largely due to its robust creation tools and emphasis on indirect community interaction. Ironically enough, EA has come under fire due to Spore‘s digital rights management (DRM) system.

The Spore community has responded the only way they know how- by creating anti-DRM creatures in Spore. This community may be comprised of the same individuals that helped give Spore one of the lowest ratings on Amazon ever. We’ve seen a certain game company buckle under pressure from unhappy consumers before with the cancellation of Battlefield: Bad Company‘s pay-for-weapons program and Mass Effect‘s ten day authentication requirement. Ironic that all these games were published by EA…

Stellar Spore Galactic Edition

Since people have had to wait so long for EA’s Spore, it seems only fitting that a special edition version of the game will be released on the launch date. The Spore Galactic Edition will feature the Spore game, along with a “Making of Spore” DVD, the National Geographic Channel’s special “How to Build a Better Being” on DVD, an “The Art of Spore” art book, a Galactic Handbook and a poster. It will be released on the same day as the original edition (September 5, 2008), but will be a bit more expensive.

The price is a bit of a mystery. The official press release states the Spore Galactic Edition will cost $79.99, and a quick peek at GameStop’s site confirms this. However, the EA Store shows the same product for $69.95. Perhaps this is an oversight, or maybe people who buy direct from EA will receive a deal. If you’re interested in the game, it might be worth checking out come September.

Now open: The Sims 3 official website updated

It is March 19, 2008, and that means that it is opening day for The Sims 3 official site. Fans no longer have to content themselves with starring at the Sims 3 logo, as the floodgates have opened and plenty of information is now available about the latest title in the simulation series. The website must be getting a lot of traffic, because I found I needed to reload multiple times to view some pages. A release date is not among the information given.
