Five surprisingly disappointing games of 2009

These five games are some that everyone seemed to adore but I didn’t care for at all. This by no means suggests that these are bad games but they wouldn’t get my recommendation if asked.

Despite getting critical acclaim from many, these five games gave me nothing but stress and I have to get this off my chest before 2010 gets underway.

Mega Man goes 8-bit again in Mega Man 10

That’s correct. Last year’s ultra-hardcore, super retro Mega Man 9 is getting a sequel. Fans of NES-style 2D sidescrolling action and robot bashing, take heed – the latest issue of Nintendo Power spills the beans on the new game, which is slated to appear on WiiWare.

Getting in the 9/9/09 mood with nine appropriately titled games

Today is one of those special days. It’s September 9, 2009. Seems ordinary enough, unless you look at it like this: 9/9/09. People are throwing special parties, the movie 9 opens in theaters today, Apple’s releasing the Beatles’ music catalog digitally today, Beatles Rock Band debuts and a select number of people believed that the world could possibly end today. (Since you’re reading this, that last one probably didn’t happen.)

To help you get in the nine mood today, Gamertell’s put together a list of some “nine” games that you can pick up and play today. After all, something like this doesn’t happen every day, and it’s a great way to commemorate the date!

Here are some games with the number 9 in them that you can pick up (or download) and play…

Capcom’s Playstation Network storefront opening November 13, 2008

This Thursday’s (November 13, 2008) PlayStation Network update will bring more than just another game or theme, it will bring a whole storefront. The Capcom storefront we previously reported is coming to fruition much sooner than any of us thought.

The storefront promises to bring all of Capcom’s digital content on PSN together in one easy to find and navigate store. Navigation seems to work exactly like it does on the regular PSN store and, sorry guys, no word yet about

New Mega Man 9 downloadable content triples game’s difficulty

Thought Mega Man 9 was already challenging enough? Well, Capcom seems to think you can handle a little more punishment. (The company also promises it doesn’t hate you but only wants to see you suffer.)

Today (October 20, 2008) on Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network (October 23, 2008, for Wii), Capcom has released some new downloadable content for its retro-inspired downloadable game that includes Special Time Attack Stage, Hard Mode and Expert Mode. The packs sell for…

Capcom gets its own Playstation Network store

How does Sony say thank you for your awesome productivity and quality of digital downloads? By giving you your own storefront on the Playstation Store.

That’s what Sony has recently granted Capcom, publishers of the highly praised Mega Man 9 and Bionic Commando: Rearmed. The storefront will go online in November 2008 and will catalog all of Capcom’s downloads in the one place.

This is only the first of what Sony is hoping to be many “publisher portals” that will allow users to find downloads easier by simply picking the publisher or developer. Users already have the option to…

Why we play tough games

It’s an age-old question in gaming – why do we play games that punish us with unfair deaths, hair-pulling difficulty, and/or cheap enemies? Why do we, as a group, like this kind of pain? Well, a recent article in The Wall Street Journal asks exactly that: “If a Game Is Too Tough to Win, Can more »

Not looking like an idiot in Mega Man 9

So, here’s the scenario. You loved the crap out of the old Mega Man games on the NES, so you downloaded Mega Man 9 (the retro-perfect re-imagining of the franchise), only to have your butt kicked back to the 1980s? Well, Destructoid editor Anthony Burch has kindly posted some advice in a video aptly titled How not to look like an idiot in Mega Man 9. Burch breaks down the game’s old-school design and offers some crucial tips (especially helpful to newbies and old-school gamers who may have forgotten some of that MM muscle memory).

Download Mega Man 9 on any major next-gen console

At E3, Capcom clearly showed that it isn’t playing favorites with Mega Man 9, as the game will be available as a Wiiware, Xbox Live and Playstation Network download before the end of Fall 2008. The game is an homage to the original Mega Man games, and picks up exactly where Mega Man 8 left off.

In Mega Man 9, there are robotic riots occurring around the world. At first everyone thinks it is Dr. Wily’s doing, but then they see that many of the robots causing trouble were created by Dr. Light. To make matters worse, Dr. Wily has shows up on TV stating that he’s being framed by Dr. Light, who has decided to turn evil and unleash bad robots on humanity. So Mega Man heads off to show Dr. Wily for the liar and troublemaker he is, destroying the bad robots on the way.

Megaman returns to his roots in Mega Man 9

The next issue of Nintendo Power offers quite a revelation – the return of the old-school Mega Man. Apparently Capcom is taking a step back with the Wiiware release of Mega Man 9. It will be like the original Mega Man games, where Mega Man will have to go through levels for each boss before finally meeting the ultimate boss (presumably Dr. Wily).

This leak is thanks to user Syl at The Mega Man Network. Syl posted images from the issue of Nintendo Power that show all of the information on Mega Man 9. While the screen shots are small and a not perfect, they’re good enough to draw quite a bit of information from.
