TGS 2010: Konami booth to have 8 of its own games, 6 from other publishers

Konami’s among the many companies announcing its Tokyo Game Show 2010 plans. Which is to be expected, of course. The event is September 16-19, 2010, and companies want attendees to be informed well in advance so people know whether or not they want to visit certain booths. Konami’s booth will be quite full this year, with eight new Konami games and six games from other, smaller publishers on display…

Crazy Kmart gaming deals for next week

Kmart will be unleashing some killer deals next week starting on July 11, 2010. These deals are for some pretty recent games too. These offers are will be available in the store as well as online. At these prices some of the more popular games are almost certain not to be in stock for very long.

Hideo Kojima signing autographs in NYC, LA

Kojima will be signing copies of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in three locations during his brief stay in the US. Kojima won’t be able to sign everyone’s autograph so make sure you show up super early to get a chance to meet him.

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker boost PSP sales in Japan

The PSP sold 59,315 units in that same week to the PSP Go’s 1,890. In the previous week the PSP and PSP Go moved 30,302 units. The PSP managed to outsell every handheld and home console this week as well. Is it a coincidence PSP sales more than doubled the same week Peace Walker is released? We think not.

Who’s On Crack in video games for April 9, 2010

People do crazy schtuff. Companies, which are run by people, do crazy stuff on a much larger scale. And when you mix fantasy worlds, die-hard fandom and entertainment industry PR, even crazier stuff happens. This week we have Microsoft, Konami, everyone who already owns an iPad (except you, Kirk), that jerk who smashed his iPad for fleeting internet fame, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, hentai haters and me…

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker sold out (and not in a good way)

Konami may have gone overboard with its forthcoming PSP game Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The company has basically turned it into a game/advertising vessel. Players won’t just be experiencing Naked Snake’s latest adventures, they’ll also be learning how Axe body spray can heal you and getting a taste of the Monster Hunter series.

Konami and Hideo Kojima held a Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker event in Tokyo to reveal information about the game, but it seemed like the bulk of it dealt with all of the commercial tie-ins. While the Assassin’s Creed II collaboration doesn’t seem too farfetched, the other inclusions seem ridiculous and unnecessary. This is especially true since the game takes place in 1974 and many of these products didn’t exist then…

Head to Mexico for a camouflage PSP-3000

For shame Sony! Why does Mexico get the camouflage PSP, but not the United States? We’re all in North America and playing favorites is wrong.

In Japan, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was released in a bundle that included a camouflage PSP-300. Pretty nifty. So, of course, residents of North America were a tad hurt when they learned that the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker bundle that would be released here would include an evergreen PSP-3000 instead. But we accepted it, reasoned that the really cool PSPs don’t always get released overseas and decided evergreen really isn’t that bad a color for a PSP after all.

But now Sony has announced via the Mexican PlayStation Blog that Latin America is getting a Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker bundle with the camouflage PSP-3000…

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker characters appear on Mountain Dew cans

Do you love Metal Gear Solid so much that you’d buy a can of soda just because a character from one of the games was on the can? This isn’t just a hypothetical question. Konami and Suntory have teamed up in Japan to promote Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker with Mountain Dew soda.

There are eight different Mountain Dew can designs, each prominently featuring one of the Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker characters on it. For example, you can enjoy a Dew with Snake, Huey, Miller or Paz. They won’t have any special flavor – just plain old Mountain Dew. They also will only be sold in Japan, starting April 27, 2010 and cost ¥115 ($1.25). Don’t worry, if you really want a Metal Gear can of Mountain Dew, I’m sure that you’ll eventually be able to find some online store stocking them.

A similar promotion hasn’t been announced for North America or other regions…

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP bundle includes green PSP

If you live in the US or Canada and have always wanted a green PSP, you’re going to get your chance to own one. Sony has announced, via its PlayStation.Blog that it is going to be releasing a Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP Entertainment Pack on June 8, 2010. As you can see from the image above, the bundle is going to include a green PSP. I’d say it’s an evergreen, or perhaps even shamrock green.

The Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker PSP Entertainment Pack has your standard bundle content. You get a Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker UMD, a 2GB memory stick and green PSP-3000. Oh, sorry, I mean a “Spirited Green” PSP-3000…

Practice stealth jigsaw skills with Metal Gear Solid: Piece Walker

Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker won’t be released until May, 2010, but Metal Gear Solid: Piece Walker is available to play right now! And, it’s free! In order to help drum up interest in the upcoming PSP game, Konami has created an online, Metal Gear Solid-themed puzzle game.

As is evident from the title, Metal Gear Solid: Piece Walker is about assembling jigsaw puzzles. You guide your little cardboard soldier around the board with your mouse, correctly placing pieces to complete the puzzle and earn points. You can even play it in a multiplayer mode against other online users, and place bombs to hinder their progress and help yours.

When you get to the site, you can make a free account so you can keep track of your points and rank…
