Wedbush Morgan adjusts earnings projections for Take-Two after Duke Nukem’s lackluster sales
Duke Nukem Forever has caused market analyst firm Wedbush Morgan to chop $25 million off its first-quarter revenue estimates for publisher Take-Two Interactive. Wedbush Morgan had expected the long, long awaited installment in the shooter series to sell at least three million copies. Reviews for Duke Nukem’s latest hurrah have been scathing and the sales reflect as much. Wedbush Morgan now acknowledges DNF will be fortunate to sell even half of the three million originally projected.
Michael Pachter has no sympathy for Gamers’ Voice’s campaign against Activision
Not everyone is supportive of Gamers’ Voice initiative to report Activision to the Office of Fair Trading. Gamers’ Voice submitted a complaint over the overwhelmingly buggy nature of CoD: Black Ops on PS3 and PC. The PS3 version was patched early this morning and it addresses many of the major issues gamers were having. Prior to this, renowned videogame analyst Michael Pachter had choice words for Gamers’ Voice. Pachter said,”They sound like a crybaby to me.”

(Update) Rumor: Steam to start digital trade-in service
Videogame trade-in programs are the devil. That’s what a lot of videogame publishers would say if they could speak candidly on the matter. That’s the difficulty of selling a physical product. With digital games, consumers are only purchasing the license to play the product. In essence, they don’t own anything. Steam could be one of the first services that allows you to trade-in your digital games for credit towards a new purchase.
Activision becoming overly reliant on successful franchises
Activision is one of the biggest and richest videogame developers in the world. Its merger with Blizzard Entertainment has generated an incredible amount of revenue from World of Warcraft subscriptions, in addition to Activision’s own Modern Warfare titles. Activision announced it had sold over 20 million Call of Duty map packs to date. Considering each map pack costs between $10 and $15, Activision has earned at least $200 million from map packs alone. When you add revenue from millions of copies of Modern Warfare 2, you’ll see that Activision needs its own vault to store all its money.
Analyst calls for paid Call of Duty multiplayer model
The Call of Duty franchise have spawned some of the most popular multiplayer games of all time. Whenever a new CoD comes out, it’s consistently one of the most played games on Xbox Live and PSN. Such popularity has generated record breaking sales that are just waiting to be exploited. Wedbush Morgan Securities believes now is the time for Activision to announce a service in which gamers would pay to play Call of Duty online.

Jaffe’s new Twisted Metal game was a joke

Pachter predicts Respawn Entertainment will craft new Halo game
In an interview with Eurogamer, Pachter says he spoke to Respawn about whether they would make a Halo game. They didn’t rule it out, but did want to wait until a complete team was assembled before trying to figure out what game they should make. Pachter thinks taking on Halo is a natural move for Respawn.
