Gamer whines over Pokemon Dream World launch delay due to natural disasters
Sometimes I just have no words for the obsessiveness of some gamers out there. A gamer who calls himself “L33tMasta” is quite vexed because the US launch of Pokemon Dream World has been delayed. Apparently, a 9.6 earthquake, a tsunami, a series of nuclear reactor problems, and the deaths of thousands of people are not a good enough excuse for Nintendo to get their act together and release the game on time.
Sony Home Update: Earthquake, tsunami fills Japanese HOME with sadness
Following an 8.9 earthquake and a huge Tsunami that ripped through Japan, gamers who were lucky enough to still have power began finding their way on the Japanese PlayStation Network servers to reconnect with friends.
Homeland Security develops its own game
The Department of Homeland Security is developing a game that lets players experience what it is like to be in charge of the response to a terrorist attack or a natural disaster. Ground Truth requires players to respond quickly and to make intelligent decisions to avoid casualties and damage and apparently the game is aimed at training personnel to respond in case of emergencies.
The computer scientist in charge of development, Donna Djordjevich, has said that they are aiming for high production values including next-gen graphics so that people are attracted to it and engaged. Although the game is not intended as a commercial product for the moment, so far $600k have been invested in development.
