Michael Jordan not in NBA Jam, again

In addition to the players that fans voted on, EA’s new NBA Jam installment will include legendary stars for most franchises. Some haven’t been in the league long enough to have a true “legend” and will have to settle for the inclusion of their mascot.

The Chicago Bulls’ most legendary player is obvious: Michael Jordan. The problem arising here is that Michael Jordan is the cover athlete for NBA 2K11 so he can’t appear in any games for 2K Sports’ competitors.

New NBA Jam to feature Magic Johnson and Larry Bird boss battle

Talk about kickin’ it old school. NBA Jam creative director Trey Smith has confirmed that the new Wii-exclusive arcade basketballer will feature a true dream team of Earvin “Magic” Johnson and Larry Bird. After the player defeats a team composed of players from whichever squad wins the 2010 NBA Finals, Bird and Magic will be the final team you play against.

ESPN’s Marc Stein campaigns for his favorites in NBA Jam’s Wii-make

How big a deal is the return of NBA Jam? ESPN’s NBA insider Marc Stein took an edition of his “Daily Dime” column exclusively to talk about the highly anticipated arcade-style basketball title.

Stein is not some sportswriter looking for an easy way to fill space. He admits to pouring more quarters than he cares to think about about into the 1993 original.

Vote for the players you want in NBA Jam remake

A whole new generation of sports gamers is about to experience the nirvana of an NBA Jam game, and EA is allowing fans to vote on which players should make 3-man rosters.

To have your say, head on over to EA’s NBA Jam site and let your voice be heard. If you don’t vote, you have no right to complain when your favorite player doesn’t make the cut.

The new incarnation is slated for the Nintendo Wii in 2010 and EA has said it will mix classic game elements with new innovations for a unique Wii experience. EA is allowing fans to vote on the rosters of three teams each week and the election is in its second week. You can read EA Sports’ team blogs to find out which way staff is leaning on rosters and their rationale for doing so.
